Dehan village in Jishou, China by AQSO arquitectos office

September 27th, 2019 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: AQSO arquitectos office

This hospitality complex located near Jishou, in the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Hunan, enjoys an outstanding location with views towards the valley crossed by the Aizhai Bridge and the Deben Scenic area.

The resort includes a series of luxury villas carefully integrated with the landscape, a clubhouse with services, amenities, ballroom, tearooms, conference centre and administrative facilities as well as a spectacular restaurant on the highest spot of the mountainous scenery.

The master plan blends the flexibility required by the rugged terrain with a modular system able to rationalise the arrangement and construction of the buildings. The hilly land is therefore transformed into an orderly three-dimensional mesh made of squares and triangles, able to adapt to the different levels. This simplified net of points provides a circulation system of pathways for accessing the villas and a pattern that ensures all of them enjoy interesting views, privacy and have an optimum orientation, despite the density of the intervention.

A Building Integrated In Sant Pau’s Historical Enclosure

The new Research Institute of Sant Pau is a building where research and construction technology is a component of all architectural and construction design processes to achieve the maximum possible benefits with the minimum environmental, material and economic cost.

The 9,700m2 building has two basements, a ground floor and 3 floors, and is located on the street of Sant Quintí, between the modern Casa de la Convalescència and the new hospital. A large porch on the ground floor makes it a new access to the Sant Pau site. This porch is in the center of the building, aligned with the Carrer de la Torre Vélez.

Slattery Office in Melbourne, Australia by Elenberg Fraser

September 27th, 2019 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Elenberg Fraser

Have you ever wondered what the Elenberg Fraser ‘Bizarro World’ would look like? Well, we have, and we thought we’d execute it.

While Elenberg Fraser’s studio design focused tightly on the themes in Tron 1, particularly the point at which the third dimension is constructed, Slattery’s new fitout embraces the innovation and luxury of the uniforms and vehicles of Tron Legacy. We can confirm the rumour that Elenberg Fraser had designed and specified latex reception wear (non-gender specific, obviously), we love the interaction between people and space – as always one thing needs the other.

Oriental Villa in Hangzhou, China by GOA

September 27th, 2019 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: GOA

The project is a duplex house that attempts to combine tradition with modern style in design. Modern lightness and traditional heaviness are unified and fully expressed in this project.

The overall planning of the project emphasizes the central axis, with the neighborhood center, infinity pool and central green space on the central axis, introducing the canal landscape into the house garden to integrate with the surrounding landscape. This project emphasizes centripetal force and ceremonial sense to create a noble shared space of the house garden. The layout along the river is relatively free, and the scattered layout makes full use of the landscape resources, so that the rear houses also have the broad view and canal landscape.

The New Campus of Yan’an University in China by THAD

September 26th, 2019 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: THAD (Architectural Design and Research Institute of Tsinghua University)

In the old revolutionary district of Yan’an, designing a new campus for a university with a profound history and cultural heritage is a challenging proposition. The design needs to connect the past with the future, and let the history glow with the charm of the new era. We hope to make a difference from the previous campus design, going back to the origins, and exploring more deeply the connotation of this land, which reflect the spirit and regional culture of Yan’an.

ANOM CAFÉ in Kuwait by AlHumaidhi Architects

September 26th, 2019 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: AlHumaidhi Architects

Located in the Space Museum of the Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Center, the design behind Anom Cafe was largely driven by the functionality and circulation within the space: we knew the space had to be flexible enough to accommodate large groups of people all at once (ie. field trips, busy weekend nights) and spacious enough for them to move around. The greatest challenges can often be a great opportunity for simpler materials to shine. Working with a controlled budget, we drew much of our inspiration for horizontal lines from the material we chose: galvanized metal pipes. Usually used for conduits, this cost-efficient and malleable material was ideal for creating the simple geometrics we were aiming for, and made incorporating the communal wooden bench and seating area easy. We integrated the galvanized pipes almost everywhere in the design for their functionality and purpose — from being suspended above the counter to act as a hanging menu, to behind the main seating shielding the storage area from view.

Greentown Tangshan Blue Bay Town Life Experience Hall in China by GOA

September 26th, 2019 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: GOA

Tangshan Blue Bay Town Project is located on the southeast coast of Leting County, Tangshan City and on the north side of Tangshan Bay International Tourism Island. As a commercial center of the project, the town center is located at the southwest corner of the project base, where Xiangying Road and Haijing Avenue join at 70 degrees in a narrow and long triangle land to define the land area with functions including life experience hall and community facilities.

As the first portal to communicate with city interface, we consider how to make the architecture efficient and reasonable: 1. A suitable site; 2. A landmark city interface; 3. Overall project architecture style to effectively connect neo Chinese style; 4. To create multi-layer public space and urban life.

The interface facing the city road is set with two strips and opens to the road intersection to form a display surface with an open frontcourt space and a shallow mirror pool as a buffer zone with the city environment, presenting a quiet and elegant posture.
