Casa Havaí in São Paulo, Brazil by grupo garoa arquitetos associados ltda.

Article source: grupo garoa arquitetos associados ltda.

This house turns itself to the inside, in a way it is instrospective, a feature that comes from the place's specific constraints  – the linear conformation of the lot, 5x35m, and its neighbour's tall lateral walls. Because of this, views to the exterior are scarce. With the exception of the front bedroom, all environments turn to the coutryards – the indoor and the outdoor.

Moreover, the geometrical structures are the other main factor for special concept, such as circle, triangle, square and rectangular, to create areas for different function. Some divisions between different areas are movable thus the areas could be divided as well as connected depends on the occasion which brings the most flexibility. On the other hand, to enrich the variation in the office, the icon of art gallery is adopted into the space. All these ideas putting together giving interest to people walking around, making it like an easy walk in the tranquil lanes.

Namur Province Administrative Centre in Belgium by Philippe SAMYN and PARTNERS sprl, architects & engineers

Sponsor’s vision

Province Administration is bringing almost all its services together in one building to be constructed at its Salzinnes site. By establishing itself on the outskirts and at the edge of the Sambre River rather than in a high-profile city centre Namur Province has plumped for a high-impact yet sensitive position, to reflect how it regards its role.

This site should act as a city-level focal point with the outlying area serving to complement the centre. Consequently, the idea is to create a structure that has the ability to generate a deep affection for this new intellectual centre in Namur.

The image that springs to mind is of a village centre reflecting the province’s rurality and symbiotic relationship with nature. An invitation to our five senses to experience pleasure through the channel of art and culture.

The construction of the Namur Province Administrative Centre (MAP) will involve huge financial and environmental costs. The project seeks to obtain the maximum number of BREEAM credits, while highlighting the limits of this approach, as well as the questions raised. The project achieves a score of 93.53 %, or 8.53 margin points above “Outstanding” level.

Courage to the gap in Innsbruck, Austria by STUDIO LOIS

April 18th, 2019 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: STUDIO LOIS

Building plots are scarce in the Tyrol and almost impossible to find in the center of Innsbruck.

Four friends wanted to live together as neighbors and combine their strengths to realize a living opportunity. After 4 years of time consuming  searching, they found a plot of land.

Narrow, L-shaped and with limited access, situated in the middle of an urban block, the plot varies in depth between 10 and 12 meters. According to Tyrolean building regulations, a development plan with open construction was not actually  achievable! The plot is surrounded by government archive buildings, a supermarket, an old factory and romantic villas with gardens.

Health Education Building in Kansas City, Kansas by CO Architects

April 18th, 2019 by Sanjay Gangal

Article source: CO Architects

Site:

The building was constructed on a surface parking lot at the intersection of 39th Street and Rainbow Boulevard, a prominent corner at the gateway to the University of Kansas Medical Center.  As the campus continues to grow, the Health Education Building will emerge as the geographical center and interdisciplinary resource among the existing concentration of clinical, research, and educational buildings.

Program:

The new construction includes classrooms, simulation labs, clinical skills rooms, student life space, and a 250-foot-long bridge spanning adjacent to 39th Street.  The program emphasizes emerging learning spaces that support inter-professional and team-based learning, from large-scale learning studios to state-of-the-art clinical skills and simulation laboratories.  Responding to the growing importance of social learning outside of the classroom, a wide variety of study environments and community life spaces, as well as street-front retail, comprise a significant portion of the overall building program.
