Article source: Olson Kundig “My design agenda for the Bo Bartlett Center was how to make the architecture support Bo’s artwork and legacy. This may seem strange coming from an architect, but my hope is that the architecture disappears and Bo’s work is what lights the place up.” –Tom Kundig, FAIA, RIBA, Design Principal. A former cotton warehouse on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, the Bo Bartlett Center is a multidisciplinary gallery, archive and educational space on the RiverPark campus of Columbus State University (CSU). For this adaptive reuse project, Design Principal Tom Kundig, FAIA, RIBA, of Seattle-based Olson Kundig maximized the building’s interior volume with its expansive 23-foot-high ceilings to match the monumental qualities of artist Bo Bartlett’s work.

Article source: Vrtical The project is the result of Tlaxco´s Municipal Urban Development Plan (PMDU): the first project for this “Magical Town” was chosen to be the market following a consensus, participatory decision, as a means of boosting the local economy and arts crafts in Tlaxco. The project was developed on the basis of recovering the outer walls and foundations of a pre-existing building that had fallen into disuse. With a walkway at the front, the project is organized into two main halls, the larger one housing fourteen stalls for artisans from various parts of the municipal district, while the smaller one has a space for workshops. Each area is also connected to a courtyard that can be used as necessary for other activities. The walkway uses a series of arches and a rectangular frame that creates a dialogue between a contemporary and vernacular language; the space is used as a meeting point. Load-bearing walls and a laminated timber (pine) roof trusses were employed for the construction. The interiors enjoy natural lightning thanks to the placement of skylights along the length of the hall to provide bright, throughout the market place, at the same time as creating iconic structure which the local population can feel proud and make their own.

Article source: bp architects The dwelling is implanted in a privileged landscape, with gorgeous visuals to the Small mountain ranges of the Punilla Valley, in a private neighborhood at the Northwest of Córdoba, in Mendiolaza City.It presents a rugged topography, with large height differences that allowed us to play with two big volumes supported one over the other one, restinguponthe natural terrain. This situation generates large overhangs, reinforcing the idea of monolithic volumes. We materialize the concept with concrete seen cast on site in a phenolic formwork. This material is noble, classic, traditional and low maintenance, the same as the stone that was used to erect the retaining walls and the house basement.

Article source: W&Li Design There is a line of demarcation between the foyer dust area and the space of Residence BZ. There are two traffic flow choices for the users. They respectively lead to the dining room and living room. Many Y-shape frames travel in the space to play roles as the boundary area, interior light source and the ingenious designed hidden hooks. There is a good ventilation shoe cabinet made with the bamboos set in the semi-open foyer. We use the features of the materials to create private but not closed living space. 65 square meter resident meets the demand of three rooms, two halls and two bathrooms. Every area should be perfectly designed because the space is totally precious and the users will be very comfortable in it. Therefore we decide to allow the dining room to become the core of the space linking every corner, decreasing the walkway. In the meanwhile it can strengthen the relationship among the different space. Even more through the design of “light reuse”, the light of the study will be introduced into the room. Then the Y-shape layout makes the space close and spacious. It can also adjust space usages according to the changes of the family members.

Article source: ZROBYM ARCHITECTS The combination of gallery space and a private house is one of the most interesting tasks for a designer. The main focus of the interior are paintings and icons of the private collection of the owner of the house. The walls are made in soothing colors, a lot of brickwork, for a better presentation of works of art. In the living room, the absence of a sofa indicates that the TV is no longer the main dominant room, here all attention is focused on the long racks along the walls, on which statues and paintings are located. In each room, there is a striving for minimalism, where, if not an object of art, takes attention to itself, then interesting furniture works as a part that you want to consider and study.
