Nantes Haluchere in France by THIBAUD BABLED ARCHITECTES URBANISTES

December 24th, 2018 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: THIBAUD BABLED ARCHITECTES URBANISTES

The Paris office of Thibaud Babled Architectes Urbanistes just delivered a multipurpose complex comprised of 4 buildings, housing the headquarters of the Nantes Métropole “proximity” center, an office of Pôle Emploi (national employment agency) and housing. The project’s varied program of high quality architectural and environmental design creates a link between the inner city of Nantes and its periphery. At this pivotal juncture of city and periphery, Thibaud Babled chose to build a strong statement at the intersection of the high traffic volume of the boulevard and a hub of tram lines. The project grows out of the concept of a new metropolitan multi-modal center at the intersection of main road and rail axes.

The complex of buildings includes some forty units of housing as well as offices to be occupied by Nantes Métropole and Pôle Emploi.

High performance bicycles from Argon 18 are displayed in a futuristic retail experience that blends elements from the world of technology, engineering, mechanics and community. Here harmony exists between man, nature and machine. It is a space that fosters knowledge, learning and innovation and perhaps even more importantly, invites people to dream.

Jose House in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia by Fabian Tan Architect

December 24th, 2018 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Fabian Tan Architect

The house is a typical single storey terrace house on a plot of  23′ x 75′ land. The original house layout is typically closed and the brief was to create an open plan on one side and private rooms on the other side of the dividing center wall. With a restricted budget, the layout utilizes the existing structure as much as possible with the addition of a half loft floor which originally was the existing floor slab for an old water tank. The roof timber supports was also untouched and the scale of the building was maintained to match with the existing neighboring houses.

Ghost Cabin in Seattle, Washington by SHED Architecture & Design

December 24th, 2018 by Sanjay Gangal

Article source: SHED Architecture & Design

When contractors were working on the Chophouse Row project in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood back in 2013, they made a startling discovery. Buried several feet below the eclectic mix of historical buildings they discovered the foundation of a small house—the remnants of a pioneer settlement dating back to the late 19th century.

Contractors began calling the structure “Grandma’s House,” and when the project hit some inevitable construction delays, the crew joked about Grandma’s ghost coming back to slow their progress.

Marinehaus in Berlin, Germany by ADEPT

Danish office ADEPT wins international museum competition in Berlin

For more than 20 years, the protected ‘Marinehaus,‘ originally a union club for naval officers, was left neglected in the central Berlin neighborhood, Mitte. Now the building, as a central part of the vision of the Berlin City Museum to establish a cultural cluster, is to be resurrected as a new museum typology. With a strong house-in-house concept, ADEPT wins the international competition ahead of 20 invited competitors.

The transformation of a 7.800 m2 protected building is part of the future strategy for Stadtmuseum Berlin, that includes a new type of museum – a creative and cultural pivot that anchors the museum in the everyday life of the neighborhood through exhibitions, workshops and as a community center for the locals.

ADEPT’s winning proposal shows how a simple house-in-house concept can create synergy between the new community functions and the historical frame, already integrated in the urban context. The existing floors are removed and replaced by a new interior wooden structure, allowing visual connections between floors and a warm inclusive identity to the project.

This space is completed with smooth curved structures, warm material elements, vivid colors, and cute highlighted shapes to capture the attention of children visiting the dentist, and to reassure them so that they can come again.

The entire structure was covered with natural oak-wood as the main material, unlike the general ambience of white colors as base.. The structures wrapped in oak-wood on a smooth curve is contrasting the vivid colors highlighted. These are used to blow life into the atmosphere.

To give friendly feelings to children, elements shaped of circles, stars, and house were appropriately decorated in the space.

Gree Air Conditioners Flagship Store in Istanbul, Turkey by ZAAS

December 24th, 2018 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: ZAAS

ZAAS, was commissioned to design the new flagship store for Gree, one of world’s largest air conditioner companies, in Istanbul where the task was to create an engaging display space as well as promoting the recognition of this world wide brand in Turkey.

Under a very economic budget, the design is shaped around two areas: the front area is planned to include client reception and sales, meeting room and air conditioner display space while the back area is planned to host the employee offices, seminar room and storage.  The air conditioner display area is designed to accomodate the wall – mounted types and the stand up cylindrical floor conditioners, which have their distinct technology and design.

The abstraction of the air that is ‘heated’ and ‘cooled’ come into being in the use of a  bold, warm  color in the meeting room and the different tones of blue in other areas. The use of different materials like wood, metal and glass also  aim to reflect the idea of harmony betwen the cold and warm, embracing the theme of “Heating and Cooling for Everyone Everywhere”.

Kloof 119A in South Africa by SAOTA

December 24th, 2018 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: SAOTA

This SAOTA designed family home is positioned below Lion’s Head; with views of Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, Signal Hill, the city of Cape Town and the mountains of the Boland and the winelands in the distance, the architecture is shaped to take in as much of the surrounding as is possible. The strongest gesture is the inverted pyramid roof which creates a clerestory window around the upper level. It allows the building to open up, capturing views of Table Mountain and Lion’s Head that would otherwise have been lost. This has also opened up views of the sky bringing the sun and moon into the home, heightening the connection to nature and its cycles.
