Song Art Museum in Beijing, China by Vermilion Zhou Design Group

An Art Container – Instead of creating certain atmosphere for exhibition, in this case, we emphasize the connection between the subject and object.

The original architecture is Victorian style with Western-style gardens, as an overly makeup woman, is outdated. The owner intended to transform its function into an art space for the public using. Our first step is to remove all the decorations from her, to show her purely look.

Disharmony is what has happened in this project: an imitated aspect from a mighty culture without its core. For instance, the Victorian building without its cultural base, the only thing it has is symbol which needs to be reconsider and to be released. In short, what we aim to approach in this project is to make disharmony from disharmony. As a result, the building would be back to the original context, a spatial container.

Lyttelton Studio Retreat in New Zealand by Bull O’Sullivan Architecture Ltd

“Speartha Broidnithe Eadach” – The heavens embroidered cloths from the W.B Yeats poem ‘He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven’.

Drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape, a landscape of continual changing color, texture and mood and a landscape that is sensationalized from the studio of 23b Walkers Road. Yeats description of something so fantastical, which no one can ever own, was an appropriate salutation towards the encompassing beauty that is celebrated from each space on both levels of the plan, in particular when one is having a bath.

The objective of the project was to create an exemplary modern house, with four rooms, in a site without a significant topography near the Paute River. The house is established in a U shape land, closing in its lateral arms the social area with the intention of leading the views toward the Andean Mountains, which disappear to the west, creating interesting atmospheres inside the home because of the color shades that are presented by the sunset.

The World’s Biggest Bicycle Parking in Utrecht, Netherlands by Ector Hoogstad Architecten

September 7th, 2018 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Ector Hoogstad Architecten

Historically, the Dutch have always been fervent cyclists. This enthusiasm is now growing even further as cycling is being discovered as a key ingredient of the sustainable city. New bicycle typologies such as the introduction of the so-called e-bike are helping to amplify this shift in mass transportation. More and more public transport hubs will be complemented with extensive and user friendly amenities for cyclists, as increasing amounts of people begin to favour the combination of cycling and public transport over car use.

The K41 office park is the first business center in the western corridor of the Buenos Aires metropolitan area. Located 41 kilometers from the city center, K41 offers a large service hub and accompanies the creation of sub-centralities, revitalizing and transforming the centralist system of the megalopolis.

Central to the building is a covered grand hall, with three large office wings that form patios on each side of the hall, offering dynamic spaces for expansion. On the top floor the building proposes offices with an important relationship with outside spaces.

Superlofts Blok Y in Utrecht, Netherlands by MARC KOEHLER ARCHITECTS

Superlofts Blok Y, a cooperative housing project in Utrecht designed by Marc Koehler Architects, wins the Private Housing category of the 2018 Royal Institute of Dutch Architects (BNA) award for Building of the Year.

Designed as an Open Building, Superloft Blok Y forms part of the ongoing Superlofts project, initiated by Marc Koehler Architects (MKA), focused on flexibility, participation and adaptability. It offered a collective of 30 homeowners a blank canvas to customise or design and build their apartments according to their needs, and actively engaged them from the outset to co-create the building and its shared spaces. A unique complex – where no two apartments are alike – results from the building’s radical flexibility, collective character and high level of sustainability.

‘Allende’ Performance Hall and Rehearsal Studios in Mons-en-Barœul, France by Dominique Coulon & associés

September 6th, 2018 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Dominique Coulon & associés

Set in the orthonormal organisation of the town of Mons-en-Barœul, the cultural centre pivots, the better to look at the town hall. The building gains in autonomy and becomes an urban landmark. It contains three music studios, one 500‑seat modular auditorium, a bar, an exhibition gallery, and a large rehearsal room.

The pivoting of the volume of the large rehearsal room creates a large empty space on the inside that connects with the other elements of the project. The geometrical conflict generated by this pivoting is revealed by the triangular shape the empty space creates. In association with the diagonal lines of the staircase, the walls bend in an upward movement.
