In a breath taking mountain scenery 2000meters above sea level is the ski lodge wolf with the dimensions of 22 x 16 x 7 meter is situated. Like a peak the saddle roof stands out and adapts itself in the topography of the surroundings. Chosen as main material for the building was the sustainable material wood. The façade is cladded with a vertical and horizontal screen made of rough sawn spruce in different widths. Reinforced concrete was used for the fundament and reminds to the old lodges built on a stone base.
Compared to the original building by Peter Behrens, who in the 1930s created an internationally regarded masterpiece of Modernism with Tabakfabrik Linz, the new development added in the early 1980s was not of the same architectural standard.
The 80s addition was demolished, releasing a site that the Linz authorities thought would be the perfect location for the main building of the Tabakfabrik complex and, based on its key geographical role in the fabric of the city, they decided it would be a historic chance to positively impact the development of the city.

This is, however, not the case with House on Tschengla, which has become a fully-fledged second home for its owners. Located a mere 30 minute drive from their flat in the Western Austrian town of Feldkirch, it allows them to live in two worlds, between the lively density of a town and the vast solitude of the mountains.

Close to the St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, the popular Austrian bar and restaurant chain Wein & Co has opened a new branch. The reason for completely renovating the already existing catering area of a Gründerzeit building was the possibility to extend the company to three levels and to modernize them. On an area of 800 square metres, BEHF architecturally implemented the motto “WINING DINING SHOPPING” by creating a spacious suite of rooms as well as a distinctive ambience.
The building’s introverted structure is a response to its heterogeneous surroundings: the complex has clearly defined edges on the north, east and west sides, and opens up to the south, where it faces wide open spaces. Two courtyard blocks build an urban space sequence, creating a south-facing relationship. Cuts, openings and large windows structure the west, north and east sides, entering a dialogue with the surrounding urban space.
The workmen from the village wanted to tear down the black shed from 1934: draughty, weather-beaten and worm-eaten it was, they said. But we liked this black outbuilding of the mansard-roof house in the Vienna Woods that we had just renovated in a radical yet respectful manner.

The special appeal of this project lies in the appreciation shown for this old outbuilding in the shadows of the Vienna Woods villas. Back in the 1930s, few people could afford a basement, let alone a garage. And so they built their own sheds to store wood, raise rabbits or boil laundry in, which was then hung up to dry in the attic.

The “best architects 18 Award” in the category “Interior Design”, the Iconic Award 2017 in the “Architecture” category, the German Design Award 2018 in the “Architecture” category, and two additional awards in the categories “Architectural Design / Heritage Architecture” and “Restoration & Renovation”.
During the renovation works on an ancient heritage building from the late 18th century on Vienna’s traditional Berggasse, a bricked up staircase was found. It led to a twelve meters deep, second cellar area with approximately 250 square meters. Located between Votivkirche and Sigmund Freud’s apartment, this cocktail and underground bar is an aesthetical gem.
