1123 Walnut Street in Boulder, Colorado by MQ Architecture

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023

Article source: MQ Architecture

This commission encompassed two separate commissions. The first one was to develop a two story mixed used building on a 48 feet wide by 150 feet deep “party” lot. The second challenge consisted on the design of a new typology of hospitality: a cannabis lounge for the recreational consumption of Marihuana.

The project is facing Boulder’s Downtown Historic District, a Landmark area built around 1880 where most of the lots are 25 feet wide with brick party walls. After World War II plenty of these buildings were modernized with metal and precast facade panels.

Dihedral House in Boulder, CO by Arch11

Tuesday, December 25th, 2012

Article source: Arch11

Design strategy:

This modern house designed by Arch11 is a place where the domestic life of a young family weaves with the values of two professional athletes and the outdoors. Where this distinction may separate those roles, lines in this structure seeks to bind and integrate. Anchored on a downtown corner site, this Boulder, Colo. home has an all glass living room and Site-cast, board-formed concrete walls. The latter both moors the building to its site and provides thermal mass to control temperature swings.

The house is organized around crossing dihedral lines–one phenomenal and one tectonic—that shear the interior volumes.

Fractured Residence in Boulder, Colorado by Studio H:T

Sunday, April 29th, 2012

Article source: Studio H:T

The project creates spatial experience from the fracture implied by splayed property lines. The resulting volumetric fissure of the building mass organizes the horizontal circulation and creates the space of the stair cavern. The fracture also serves as a connector between the two entries of the long narrow dwelling, thus remediating the challenging circulation issues of building from street to street with a sectional shift of almost 40′. The unique spatial experience is punctuated by, and allows for, highly varied apprehension of form, light, and shadow

Box House in Boulder, Colorado by Studio H:T Architect (designed using Autodesk Revit)

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

Steep site, wildfire prone area, prominent location, compelling views.  A concrete ribbon carves the hillside to create space for the boxes.  The garage and main level push into the earth while the studio and master float above.  A spatial slot organizes procession from the northern car-park to the southern courtyard.  Courtyards form introverted space that perceptually enlarge the interior.  Roof decks are extroverted, capitalizing on  views.  The dialog between grounded and floating permeates the design in materiality and attachment.
