Bottles Congress in Braga, Portugal by Tiago do Vale Arquitectos

Wednesday, February 8th, 2017

Article source: Tiago do Vale Arquitectos

The “Bottles Congress” project came as an answer to the very particular challenges presented by a wine and spirits store in unique circumstances.

Located in the outskirts of the city of Braga, in northern Portugal, next to Minho’s University, the client required a system to display over a thousand different wine and spirits bottles, designed in a modular fashion and capable of being adapted to different locations.

Tree of Life Chapel in Braga, Portugal by Cerejeira Fontes Arquitectos

Friday, November 4th, 2016

Article source: Cerejeira Fontes Arquitectos

The object, the chapel, is a handmade wooden box construction inside a huge18th century stone building, the Seminary of St. Tiago, in the center of Braga, Portugal. Into the renovated two levels space that encloses the Chapel comes some daylight that is very controlled and delicately used by the architects. The space around the chapel is quite dark, so the object appears transparent. The natural light is filtered through its walls, made by thin, horizontal, wooden bars, and gives the architectural body a luminous appearance.

Projecto Homem in Braga, Portugal by Cerejeira Fontes Architects

Wednesday, September 14th, 2016

Article source: Cerejeira Fontes Architects

On the  highest  point  in  the  city  of  Braga the  different temporal  strata of the city can be seen. This is the location to construct the building, connected to this visual memory. The connection  of the present occurs in the courtyards of the building, the location of social activity at the center, the repetition extends into the city’s areas of activities. These connections are registered non-explicitly in the subtraction of masses form the construction  of the building, extending it to the city squares, main streets, buildings and landscape. There is a formal  and social relationship  between  the city and the  building.  A project  for  the  rehabilitating people with  problems  with  substance abuse assumes the  same fragmented   relationship   of  city  life  at  your  feet.  The organization  of  the  architectural   elements, regardless  of the   different   functions   that   compose  the   program,   it provides a formal response for each individual space and is revealed as a tool to transforming it into a piece of the city. The building  consists of  two  platforms  which  fall  within several   blocks   seemingly   independent,  creating   two courtyards:  one facing the  city and the  other  an interior courtyard.

THE THREE CUSPS CHALET in Sé, Braga, Portugal by Tiago do Vale Architects

Wednesday, November 27th, 2013

Article source: Tiago do Vale Architects

HISTORICAL CONTEXT

In the second half of the 19th century Portugal saw the return of a large number of emigrants from Brazil. While returning to their northern roots, specially in the Douro and Minho regions, they brought with them sizable fortunes made in trade and industry, born of the economic boom and cultural melting pot of the 19th century Brazil. With them came a culture and cosmopolitanism that was quite unheard of in the Portugal of the eighteen-hundreds.

GNRation in Braga, Portugal by Atelier Carvalho Araújo

Wednesday, July 24th, 2013

Article source: Atelier Carvalho Araújo

The intervention in the former building of the GNR (military police) brings together all the concept of dynamism of Braga European Youth Capital 2012. The project uses the concept of occupation as motif. The occupation by man and nature. It explores the boundary between an abandoned existing structure and a new invasor construction who takes over the space. A space in constant regeneration, rather than a final object.

House in Brito, Braga and Guimarães by Topos – Atelier de Arquitectura. Lda

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012

Article source: Jean Pierre Porcher, Margarida Oliveira, Albino Freitas

Located between the city of Braga and Guimarães, the house finds itself in a large sloping terrain, part of a valley still partly preserved from residential areas. To the west, a line of water irrigates a thicket of «tiers pay-sage» and sustains on the other side a lush forest of eucalyptus trees. On this side, the cultivated fields, the ruins of a farm frozen in time, waiting to be rehabilitated. Foreseen was the unfolding of quiet lives in harmony with nature.

Wednesday, June 27th, 2012

Article source: J M Carvalho Araújo Arquitectura e Design

A large property nowadays too divided. We tried not to aggravate their characterization and to safeguard the reference of the existing building.

It was important for us to preserve the environment of the existing entry of the manor house, and reduce the environmental impact of new volumes, looking in all to make a new front to enrich the future city park.
