The initial aim of this project was the creation of a space that would unite indoors with outdoors, without losing privacy. Due to the limitation of the land (360m2), the idea was to ensure the best use of the spac-es, considering the angle of the sun. It is a large residence, with a social area fully connected to the ex-ternal area. The absence of walls and the use of frames ensures the full use of the natural light. In addi-tion, both the plate glass as well as the extension of the upper floor over the lower floor ensures better thermal comfort. Energy saving was also considered an essential factor for this project, such that, in all areas, LED lighting technology was used.
The initial idea for this project, on the Xangri-lá beach, was to give the air of a rural house located on the beach, using a considerable area of the land. In order to meet the owner’s expectations, who like an open house without losing privacy, all of the faces of the social area were designed as a part of the ex-ternal area. In addition, natural light and cross ventilation were used with the aim of avoiding the use of air conditioning. Energy saving was also optimized with the use of LED technology in all ambients. The concrete walls, beyond creating an inequivalent brute and rustic appearance, offer advantages regarding the temperature and low maintenance.
Building constructed for the specific use of a fitness center. It was built over columns (pilotis) used as parking place. The reception and administrative areas are located on the ground floor; the dressing, body-building and cardiovascular rooms on the first floor; and on the second floor are situated the fight, multi-use and bike rooms. The materials and colors are pallets of grey, wood and orange. Natural light is captured on the facade and through zenithal illumination. Special attention was given to illumination and visual communication. The façade faces a busy avenue, and makes use of the volumes of the building and of the grey and orange colors to stand out in the urban setting.
The house is located in a quiet residential neighbourhood in the south of the city of São Paulo, very close to a beautiful square widely used by local residents. Embedded into an urban lot, the residence is composed by a single volume that has been placed in the frontal part of the terrain leaving room for a large rear garden. Apart from the pedestrian entrance, by the street there’s only a parking spot for two cars and, behind a side green wall, the small uncovered service area.

The Franca House is located in na urban plot in one of the residential areas in Brasília, Brazil, called Lago Norte (North Lake). Here the recent low in the rent prices and the estabilization in the prices of the land have favoured a change in the neighborhood´s dwellers profile. The settlement of young families with children besides the occupation of the houses by new residential programs such as student shared houses have increased the density of inhabitants. In our view this transformation creates a new opportunity to reactivate the idea of the house as an extension of the city and vice-versa, which is a way of seeing the public space that was usual for the families that lived there in decades before. Therefore the fundamental idea of the project was to create a strong possibility of connection between the public space (the street) and the private space (the house).
