Article source: a9a rchitects

Fang Ting Bookstore is located in OCT O’PARK commercial district, close to Hutaoli. Looking from the street that is close to water, the building’s external facade is a transparent glass curtain wall. The arc’s external wall is half covered with a white metal curtain. Combined with the gradual glass film of the lower half, a delicate balance is achieved between the virtual and the real without affecting the internal lighting. Approaching the outside seating area, a “Book of Longing” opens a mottled brick entrance.

Article source: Tanzo Space Design

Without presupposing purpose

The project is located in Haidian District, Beijing, where the famous Jingxi Rice and Qianlong Imperial Fields are no longer well known to young people. Under the nourishment of the Xishan Mountains and Yongding River, the villages in the joint region of urban and rural areas have taken over the baton of urban development. As a result, countryside houses may become the focus in this situation, influencing the villages and towns and the people there in the new era.

CloudLand Tourist Service Center in Guangdong, China by ATELIER XI

Wednesday, October 5th, 2022

Article source: ATELIER XI

The CloudLand Tourist Service Center is located in Cloud Garden, a community park in the Science and Technology District in Nanshan, Shenzhen. Adjacent to the surrounding high-rise office buildings, the CloudLand extends itself horizontally into a linear set of open spaces that provide various leisure services for visitors and locals.

In the beginning, the architect was invited to design a pavilion for visitors based on the new landscape planning of the park. Due to the tight project schedule, the steel-structure framework was used to shorten the on-site construction procedure. As a result, the project was opened to the public eight months after the initial commission.

‘Primary and secondary schools for education towards sustainable development.’

This is a project to build a new public primary and secondary school for children aged 7 to 15 in Luohu District, Shenzhen, China.

The themes of the new schools were what the ‘future’ should look like for children and how they should learn for the ‘future’. In order to achieve a sustainable society, education for sustainable development (ESD) has been a focus in education in recent years. ESD requires learning that encourages deep learning in a proactive and interactive way about contemporary society and one’s own problems, and the use of high-tech is not the only ‘future’, but awareness of low-tech and environmental issues can lead to a sustainable society. In this project, the place to learn about this is considered to be the ‘School of the Future’, and based on the design concept of a ‘diverse learning place with nature and communication at its core’, the following methods were used to achieve a school that encourages independent thinking and learning among the students.

CITIC SQUARE Renovation in Shanghai, China by Kokaistudios

Friday, September 30th, 2022

Article source: Kokaistudios

Kokaistudios’ recently completed architectural renovation project of CITIC SQUARE shopping mall epitomizes Shanghai’s inherent duality. With a futuristic aesthetic combining multimedia elements and some of today’s most sought-after brands, it sits seamlessly alongside one of the city’s best-preserved examples of traditional, historic lane housing. Located in Jingan district on main thoroughfare Nanjing West Road, the transformed building’s pixel-inspired facade and carefully selected materials break the traditional ‘box’ shape to blur the boundaries between city and mall, public and private.

Chongqing Gaoke Group Ltd Office in China by Aedas

Friday, September 23rd, 2022

Article source: Aedas

Completed in 2022, Aedas-designed Chongqing Gaoke Group Ltd Office Project utilises a simple elegant form. It is derived from the northern light, which creates the twisting shape of the 180m tall tower to form expressive double-curved surfaces on the building façades. Vertical lines accentuate the minimalistic form and through the effect of reflection and refraction from the glass create a design statement that celebrates light as the major tool to define architecture.

Stands at the north of Xingfu Plaza, the project is located in Jiangbei District of Chongqing. The surrounding environment has already been developed in a spacious plot, and one big challenge for the designer is to interpret planning concept of “solar”, into an iconic landmark well-integrated in the existing community context.

Water Drop Library in Guangdong, China by 3andwich Design / He Wei Studio

Thursday, September 15th, 2022

Article source: 3andwich Design / He Wei Studio

The building is located in Shuangyue Bay Central Park, Pinghai Town, Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, China. The park is between the ancient town of Pinghai and the sea, not far from the famous Shuangyue Bay Turtle Reserve. The overall terrain of the park is high in the north and low in the south, with hills and valleys in the north and the sea in the south. The project base is close to the center of the park and is an independent and prominent “peninsula shaped” hill. The trend of the hill is from northeast to southwest, so the view in the north is dominated by hills and valleys, and the view in the south is 270 degrees of excellent sea view. The hills in the park are soft in shape and not magnificent, but there are a number of boulders, which provide an important support for the shaping of the landscape.
