BIGWICH in Chandigarh, India by Design Equilibrium

Tuesday, September 6th, 2016

Article source: Design Equilibrium

Client Brief

The client wished for an eatery which served vegetarian food in  a comfortable informal setting, a setting which feels and is accessible to all cadres of soceity, where the outlook of the project does not depict or is least suggestive of any certain style or form of interiors. The plain contemporary or industrial design approach was too bland for their taste. So, they put forward guidelines where the interiors should be lively and  reflective of the brand ideology ; affordable food, experimentation and the interiors would reflect a sense of community, equality and bonhomie.

Article source: The Purple Ink Studio

The upbeat and contemporary spirit of the AD boutique – a fabric/drapery retail store is expressed in their new flagship store nestled in the heart of Bengaluru city, India. The modest space of 650 sqft is celebrated with an accentuated idea of the arched windows with drapery, of the by-gone era which is represented in the most quintessential form, the “Arch”. The strong geometry of an arch articulated in a modern dialog creates the setting for a dramatically themed display.

Article source: Studio Ardete

OVERVIEW

Born out of the idea of an individualistic and practical space design, Pro fitness Gymnasium is located in Kurukshetra, a small town in the state of Haryana. This ambitious project, spread over an area of 5000 sqft, was imagined and built as the largest gymnasium in the city.

The main challenge was to break the stereotypes surrounding the design of fitness spaces and to put together a new array of elements and systems that would work as a prototype whilst giving the space a bold, distinctive look.

Jindal Pipes Corporate Office in Gurgaon, India by Morphogenesis

Thursday, August 25th, 2016

Article source: Morphogenesis

The project entailed taking a completed building and designing the interiors for it with obvious constraints imposed on the interior architecture as the building design was done independently and with little provision for the intended and eventual use of the building. Although this was a huge challenge, but also made the design process immensely interesting.

Arvindh and Priya’s house in Bangalore, India by Biome Environmental Solutions Pvt.Ltd.

Tuesday, August 16th, 2016

Article source: Biome Environmental Solutions Pvt.Ltd.

The house sits in the context of a densely built residential area in North Bangalore. A substantial area of the plot along the road edge is occupied by the expansive canopy of a beautiful African Tulip.

The design takes the tree into consideration at every stage in an attempt to unite it with the built space, factoring in daylight and ventilation. The resulting home is marked by a sedate atmosphere, hints of the tree and the sky mingling with sober earth walls, which then contrast with oxide floors and painted steel windows.

Akbarally’s Men in Mumbai, India by DCA Architects

Wednesday, August 10th, 2016

Article source: DCA Architects

Originating in Mumbai in 1897 as the first departmental store in India, Akbarallys flaunts the antiquity of its rich legacy that derives from its existence of over 118 years. Conversing with the historicity of the city, today the 10,000 square feet ‘Akbarallys Men’ is a multi-branded departmental store for men. With a shop-in-shop format, the store reinvents its original, over a 100-year old concept of ‘everything under one roof’- but ‘this time for men’. The store houses an extensive collection of clothing and other necessities for men from all premium Indian and international brands along with its own range of bespoke clothing. Maintaining its antique character that was bequest over its structure in the prime, significant ‘Fort’ area in Mumbai, the brief was to transform the old site into its contemporary avatar, while retaining the celebrated inheritance.

KMYF in Bangalore, India by Cadence Architects

Tuesday, August 9th, 2016

Article source: Cadence Architects

The site for the project measured 60×40. The requirement was to build a 30 bed dialysis center. The unique feature of the site was that it was adjacent to an ancient South Indian Temple which was revered by the neighborhood for both its architectural presence and religious value. The context in that sense was atypical of a generic urban setting. The position that we took was to make a sensitive intervention into the context, we looked at the building as a backdrop to the existing scenario with the temple as the main protagonist.

Friday, August 5th, 2016

Article source: v2com

Situated on an undulating site in the deserts of Ras, Rajasthan, India, Studios 18 apartments are a part of an entire layout spread over 36 acres. With no buildings or development in the vicinity, this layout is being created for the working people of a new cement manufacturing plant that has commenced production nearby. Close to the site there is no existing development and there are four villages at a distance of 1 km from the site. Taking a cue from the organic layouts of the neighbouring villages near the site, the residential units are interspersed within the existing contours along organic streets that weave through the site.
