The unusual brief for the project required two buildings, a furniture factory and display center and an adjacent building, both owned by the client, to be visually connected so as to provide a united front to the viewer.
Where most of the fitness centers around the world follow set rules of planning and interiors, Moksha was inspired by a will to define a new language for exercise and training centers.
The client desired an extension to the existing gymnasium including a Spa and Spinning studio. This was to be housed in the basement. As a result, the architects were faced with the dual problems of limited space and limited budget.
From the architect.It was difficult to know if it was day or night or for that matter rain or sunshine, while inside the client’s previous dingy home that stood on this site and they craved for a new lease of life!
In Jodhpur, we fondly use stone in design, together with structural concrete and wood. To us, traditional building materials play an important role in architecture, because in the hot 45-degree sun, buildings need to take into account the local weather as also a tool to achieve a connection with the historical ambience. Over the years, the use of local stone has created an omnipresent relationship between the stone urbanscape and architecture. We have added to that mix a contemporary sensibility, and a climate cooling effect of water garden and plants seen through Floor-to-ceiling windows with screens are designed to maximise view over the water gardens, and soft surfaces that do not reflect abundant natural light. The extent of the detailed use of stone screens and expensive detailing is limited by financial possibilities.

Strategically placed on the arterial road; right at the South bound foot of the Kemps Corner flyover, makes the iconic structure hard to miss while passing by.

My name is Amlankusum. I’m a 45-year old Hindu agroecologist. For the past five years, I’ve lived with my family in the heart of a plus-energy, vertical eco-neighborhood called “Hyperions” producing more energy than it consumes. In collaboration with architects, agricultural engineers, agronomistsand farmers,I eco-conceived this garden towersproject rooted in JaypeeGreens Sports City, with the double objective of energy decentralization and food deindustrialization. My approach is holistic, combining the best of low-tech and high-tech instead ofsystematically opposing them. Our aim is to reconcile urban renaturationand small-scale farming with environment protection and biodiversity.

Built for accommodating the activities of a religious festival for a tribal community that resides in the lush countryside west of Kolkata, the driving concept behind the design was to celebrate tribal life, rituals and the symbiotic relationship with the forest. The fascinating surroundings of the Pavilion of Canopies are reflected in its design. An earnest attempt has been made to raise awareness about the enrichment and conservation of forestlands and the communities residing within them by highlighting their lives within the forest. The design experience was to abstract the journey through a lush forest of canopies and arrive at the sight of glorious divinity. This was similar to the ancient Indian ritual of undertaking a pilgrimage through the forest to seek divine enlightenment. Since the site is also surrounded by dense greenery the design seeks to formally reflect this contextual characteristic.
From the architect. Our design for Lookup’s new offices is based on one core principle: the requirement of flexible, open workspaces for a young, dynamic team. Our vision was to design a space that was minimal yet confident and most importantly, efficient.
