bistro La vie in Aichi, Japan by iks designWednesday, December 20th, 2017Article source: iks design For a casual French bistro, an interior design with comfort and a proper sense of tension was pursued. Only materials such as brass, thick solid wood, and antique scaffold planks – those that would have enhanced characteristics as they age – were used for finishes. Brass was used as eye-catchers for lights, hanger pipes, furniture knobs and handles, window frames, decorative screws, etc., in order to provide gorgeousness to the interior. The residence was built on a site that looks up Himeji Castle in a historical district in Himeji, Hyogo. The client is a couple, who lives on their own. The residence was newly planned as a place to spend their life together after their children became independent. The site is an irregular shape. A small river runs on the west side, and on the other side of the river is a residential district. On the east side, Himeji Castle can be viewed beyond at the end of the front road that has a trace of historical streetscape. The design condition was very challenging, as the site was in a irregular shape, and I proposed the facade which shows the respect to townscape of the historical city. Arranged in an authentic Japanese style, the building is situated in a prime location overlooking the waters of Ise-Shima, with a traditional Japanese-style garden and a large pond that lends an impression of continuity to the sea. Having high rise buildings in the background, the 100 colored strands dance in the breeze, as if they are breathing in and out, creating a dynamic motion. Substrate Factory Ayase in Kanagawa, Japan by AHA | Aki Hamada ArchitectsMonday, November 13th, 2017Article source: AHA | Aki Hamada Architects This is an extension to an existing circuit board factory located near Atsugi base. The first floor area, which had originally been planned as a workshop, was changed to be used as a showroom and a multi-purpose space for local community, and therefore versatility and openness were required. Furthermore, since future reconstruction of the currently used factory building was under consideration, we tried to design an extension allowing for multiple uses, while providing adjustable spaces and programs in accordance with the active involvement of users. This building is constructed of a frame structure model designed to accommodate various conditions and requirements, as well as fitting and hardware elements allowing fine tuning by improving their adjustability and renewability.
