The extension of the Visual Arts School of Lima supposes a challenge in different issues:

The relationship between old and new.  The actual building is an architectural landmark, a very good example of neo-colonial architecture of the 1930’s  The addition should be respectful of the existing building but we considered it should also be a testimony for XXIst century architecture in Lima.

The house is the result of dealing with three important variables: satisfying the functional needs of the family, adapting the design to a difficult sloping topography without resorting to complicate and expensive structures, and capturing the views towards a golf course despite the fact that the plot is not adjacent to it.

The Project is located within the city and consists of a 2 level house, designed for a young couple with 3 children.

The house is placed at the back end of the plot, with a longitudinal north-south orientation. This allows avoiding visual contact with neighbors, taking advantage of the views of the surrounding natural environment, and obtaining the correct ventilation, thermic comfort and luminosity control of the house.

The Project is located in an existing condo in La Planicie, overlooking the Golf. Importantly, one of the family members is disabled, so the project should not have any barriers and integrate the lives of others, without altering the aesthetics and function. All in equal conditions. The project is articulated through a 1.50 axle wide circulation, containing all functions in two volumes.

The visitors’ center serves as an entry and educational center for the archaeological site of Chan Chan, an ancient city that was once the capital of the Chimor Kingdom (4th to 11th century) that existed along the north coast of South America. The visitors’ center is located at the entrance of the Tschudi Palace, the only palace open to visitors among the other eight palaces of the ancient city of Chan Chan.
