The design won the 1st prize in the twelfth edition of the national competition organized by Sanitec KOLO in 2010. Since then, the utility has been extended by a café and land development between wybrzeże szczecińskie street and vistula river in Warsaw.
The final form of the Cultural Centre design was determined by two elements: the first, the situation and an urban context of the object, the second, its function defined by the programme. The existing, original cultural centre was also a source of inspiration, together with the adjacent ecological, educational farm and a survived country house at 7 Tarniny Street. The whole programme consists of two, interconnected buildings, however, each of them can function separately. The basic part of the project and the main entrance into the building are placed on -1 level, which is accessed by amphitheatrical staircase from the entrance square. This submerged basin functions as a stage during theatrical, open-air performances. Its warm, wooden flooring looks inviting as a place for playing and relaxing between various activities. At the same time it can be easily disassembled for the maintenance of rain collector passing beneath.
Local authorities decided to transform an undeveloped piece of land in the center of Gora Pulawska into recreational space and meeting point for the village residents. The designers’ intention was to create a new square, which would be unique to its users. It should serve them well and meet their needs in every possible way. Therefore, several different zones have been designed, each intended for either leisure or recreational purposes. There is an open area with numerous benches, meant for small gatherings or outdoor events. There are also covered arbours with tables and seats intended for the residents to integrate, and finally there are large platform benches, where one can sit back and spend time in larger groups. Lighting was designed in the form of tall, slender lanterns and lamps located in the floor. The whole space has been equipped with bike racks and information boards. Landscaping elements such as pergolas, benches, lanterns and bins are made of corten steel. Benches are covered with light coloured oak wood. And the entire project is complemented with the greenery. Numerous birches and colourful bushes have been planted on both sides of the central axis. The embankment above the square has also been covered with decorative vegetation, formed in colourful stripes. The space is located below Radomska Street, which will ensure isolation from the busy arterial route. Functional differentiation of space, the use of sustainable and upstanding materials and the interesting greenery arrangement, all add up to a newly completed center of Gora Pulawska.
70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz is an occasion to think again about those events and their significance for modern society.
Oswiecim (Auschwitz) is synonymous with the greatest evil in the history of mankind. What happened is so monstrously and bloodcurdling that does not fit into the average person’s head.
This post-industrial apartment is located in the center of Warsaw in a building of an old factory of silver and bronze which was recently revitalized. The owner, french foreigner, asked designers from Chalupko Design to create a modern, cosy interior which would fit to the historical building and its facade. That’s why the apartment is finished in industrial style. There are such characteristic elements as bricks, platform table, black steel book shelf and bar-chairs. All kept in modern and light style. The space is calm, neutral, but also warm and pleasant. The beige palette is contrasted with walnut wood, black granite counter-top, black steel elements in the living room, dark grey tiles in the bathroom and dark wallpaper in the bedroom. The overall impression is that of warmth and lightness. Modern lighting completes it.
Any time I manage to make something genuinely new, it is made of well-known elements of surrounding reality. It fascinates me as a kind of perversion, kind of unauthorized, unacceptable operation and I think it is the only way to find something truly isolated in art.

There are ideas that arise from the need of a particular moment. Such a need – another hot day of summer spent in the office and a thought “if only I could go for a walk” – became inspiration for a project of a path suspended in the air, a balcony Walk-on. It is also one of the ideas to change a sad courtyard, that we overlook every day out of the office windows on the 3rd floor, to give the courtyard a bit of magic. A normal path is tortuous, winds, does not lead directly to the goal, surprises, relaxes, gives contact with nature. Therefore our path should also flow freely in space – giving you a moment of relaxation, rest, allowing you to change the perspective. This influenced its shape – it winds freely and intertwines with itself – it allows for a relaxing walk “from office to office.” Longing for a bit of greenery made us treat the path as a large pot. We filled it with grass that can grow as it wants – after all it’s just a path.
The vertical garden, covering front and side elevations, is a tool which allows to integrate the building with its green context. The FNP headquarters has become an element of the landscape in a very common sense. The green face of the building blurs the boundaries between architecture & nature.
House is situated next to Zawiercie, on a longish, slightly sloping site, in the buffer zone of the Eagles’ Nests natural landscape park.
It is set in green surroundings dominated by agricultural use. Old stone church, towering ruins of Morsko and Ogrodzieniec castles, Monadnocks scattered around – rising several meters above the surrounding terrain…
A simple own house of the architects on a narrow plot in the park. A cuboid with extended glass drawers allowing a view on the greenery from any location. The elevation is covered with homogenous material: Tecu Patina copper sheeting. A simple functional division into three zones: the utility, the day and the night ones. The house is cut through with a one-flight staircase whose walls are made of in situ concrete in a formwork with a stencil that filtrates horizontally the sun’s rays. The functional-communications layout enables intuitive moving around and the intimacy of the zones in a totally glazed house in spite of the uncomfortable three-storey structure. A house of hard-working architects. That is why the trees grow even through the terrace; there is no time for the garden and digging around in the ground. The trees, wind, sun and the cries of birds permeate the interior and become its important element. The fully glazed elevations part to let the wind play with white Tyvek curtains. Solar thermal collectors heat the water. Husky watches surroundings from the extended balcony-platform. One Husky, four huskies are reflected in the glass…
