Casa Forest in Basel, Switzerland by Daluz Gonzalez Architekten

Tuesday, June 12th, 2018

Article source: Daluz Gonzalez Architekten

The southward-sloping plot not far from basel is framed to the east and south by a beautiful deciduous forest. Breathtaking views into the dense, deep- green foliage in the summer and the leafless and airy branch structure in the winter were a decisive factor in calibrating the daylight and arranging the spaces in this home in interplay with the natural surroundings, becoming the leitmotif for the architecture.

Castagnola in Lugano, Switzerland by HERZOG & DE MEURON

Sunday, May 27th, 2018

Article source: HERZOG & DE MEURON

The well-preserved gardens of the 17th century Villa Favorita, lining the shores of Lake Lugano at the foot of Monte Bré, are of great historical significance. The 13 romanticist buildings situated in the gardens were erected between 1687 and 1932. Their historicizing style is characteristic of Ticino architecture and, in fact, generally of the villas on the lake shores of northern Italy. Originally, the Villa Favorita was a freestanding, single ensemble of buildings between Lugano and Castagnola. Today it is surrounded by modernist blocks of housing from the second half of the 20th century. This modern architecture, is also a typical Ticino style, that emerged in response to the appeal of the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland as a second home and a financial center.

Article source: STUDIO GAGGINI / NICOLA PROBST ARCHITETTI

The new building is located at the intersection of two neighborhood streets and forms the corner of a new urban block. The compact volume allows the definition of a central free space, a new resident and public park that links and enhances the various elements: the new nursing home, an existing villa, an annex, a small church.

Kindergarten and crèche in Prangins, Switzerland by PIERRE-ALAIN DUPRAZ

Thursday, January 4th, 2018

Article source: PIERRE-ALAIN DUPRAZ

The new Prangins kindergarten is conceived as one big house that has been placed on a sloping site. The cruciform structure resulting from the interlocking volumes allow it to have a special relationship with the neighbouring ensemble. The four volumes, which are mutually staggered by a third of each unit’s floor height and interleaved, make the building appear to be smaller and visually less obtrusive.

Allianz Headquarters in Wallisellen, Switzerland by WAA

Sunday, December 3rd, 2017

Article source: WAA

The Allianz Headquarters is a hybrid-office and the pinnacle of a master planned mixed-use district on the edge of Zürich’s city center. Comprised of a 20-story tower and a 5-story annex, these two components are externally linked by a series of four bridges, and vertically linked by numerous interior voids and staircases; as such, the Allianz Headquarters can be experienced as horizontal and vertical landscape of neighborhoods. Fluidly connected to the city center by a multitude of public transportation options, the building encourages the blossoming of twenty-first century office culture, which demands flexibility in space and its use, via its hyper-hybrid programming that amplifies ‘interiority’.
