Duplicate-Duplex in Bangkok, Thailand by TOUCH Architect Co.,Ltd.

Wednesday, December 19th, 2018

Article source: TOUCH Architect Co.,Ltd.

A major pain point of staying in 64 sq.m. of duplex condominium unit, which is used for a home-studio for an animator and an artist, is that there is not enough space for dwelling. Moreover, a double-volume space of living area with a huge glass curtain wall, faces West. High temperature occurs all day long, since it allows direct sunlight to come inside.

In order to solve both mentioned problems, three addition items are proposed which are, GRID PARTITION, EXTENSION DECK, and STEPPING SPACE.

Gliding Villa in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand by Stu/D/O Architects

Sunday, December 9th, 2018

Article source: Stu/D/O Architects

In an attempt to create a unique typology of a vacation home, Gliding Villa integrate principles of Thai beliefs, i.e. Feng Shui, with site context and modern design principles. Located at the end of a dead-end road, the site offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains. While owners were hesitant to purchase the plot due to its dead-end location, this superstitiously negative condition is resolved by dividing the site and program into two projects, leaving the area facing the dead-end as an open courtyard; a shared landscape between the living functions distributed along the site boundary. Because Feng Shui determine auspicious settings by referencing local features such as bodies of water and terrain, integrating such beliefs with natural ventilation allowed us to create a sustainable project that provide comfortable living conditions.

Wednesday, October 24th, 2018

Article source: Stu/D/O Architects

“NO / WHERE but NOW / HERE” is the expression given by the owners as the name and concept for this rooftop bar and restaurant on Ekkamai road. Inspired by this phrase, Stu/D/O reinterprets the idea of “nowhere” into the concept of the juxtaposition between reality and surrealism, which is represented through one of the most fundamental architectural element: stairs.

Monday, October 15th, 2018

Article source: GLA.Design Co., Ltd.

The building is more like their ‘Life Gallery’ than the house. Their lifestyle required space that exhibit their memories of traveling and their love of nature.

The first level open plan is for flexible space and matched with modern lifestyle. Although the house embraced by the greenery, there’s still the courtyard – connecting living space in the East Wing to the West Wing service area. The courtyard is capable of supporting both active and passive activities, spacious timber deck with fish pond and water feature for throwing a party at home and lawn with benches for chill out while enjoying the garden under the tree canopy. Affording privacy, a horizontal void at the gallery allows inhabitants to see their neighbors passing or guests who always visit them.

Monday, October 1st, 2018

Article source: ARCHITECTS 49 (HOUSE DESIGN) LIMITED

The name “Waterfall House” comes from the waterfall feature that locates at the center of the house. This waterfall feature is a result of a split-level design which aims to connection in both visual and accessibility aspects between living spaces. The sloped surfaces of the waterfalls have two functions, dividing and connecting. For dividing function, the sloped slab makes the half-level separation of parking space and lower level living space possible with no wasted space. For connecting function, the slope becomes pleasant waterfall that link the lower and upper living spaces. The half-level difference between two living spaces provides separation of activities without distance or closed wall. The central opening with the waterfalls allows visual connection to the upper floor and the air-flow which is necessary for tropical house. The waterfalls bring in cooling and tranquil atmosphere to surrounding space. The front open-terrace with a wide span structure creates a unique entrance experience. This covered space provides good shading for the inner living room during late mornings and afternoons. The character of the house simply reflects the concept of connecting the living space and directly express the different volume of each space through the continuous folding white surface.

Comet Hotel in Surat Thani, Thailand Studio PLP Co.,Ltd.

Friday, September 28th, 2018

Article source: Studio PLP Co.,Ltd.

The hotel is situated in Surat Thani province. Its design concept—Tropical Surreal—was inspired by Surat Thani’s very own milieu. The design team embarked on the project treating the architectural structure as a cube with overlapping areas of varying functions and perspectives.

Hotel Front Entrance

From the front view, the design was inspired by the abundance of coconut trees in Surat Thani province. The “Tropical Forest”—green, slanted lines—against the architecture reflects the origin of the project’s name, Comet. From the entrance, passersby will be able to see the motions in the lobby area. Similarly on the second floor in the all-day dining area, guests will see the change of movements that metamorphoses throughout time once they stroll into the front hall. Lava stone is used to exhibit the South’s ample mineral.
