Hunan Slurp Restaurant in New York by New Practice Studio

Wednesday, October 17th, 2018

Article source: New Practice Studio

For an eatery that features authentic street rice noodle from Hunan, we wanted to create a dining space that engages with the bustling neighborhood of East Village. The space is conceived as a place to look into and look out from, a continuous volume is carved out from the storefront into the interior so a direct dialogue is established between the street and the restaurant. A group of communal dining table anchors the center of the restaurant and adds to the continuity of the space. The interplay between white plastered wall and wood screen creates a bright and warm atmosphere. The rhythmic wood screen with fillet corners reinforces the geometry of the space, while resembling the rice noodle featured in this restaurant. The screen sits in front of existing brick walls where carefully designed backlighting adds another layer of subtlety to the space.

Sausalito Outlook in California by Feldman Architecture, Inc.

Tuesday, October 16th, 2018

Article source: Feldman Architecture, Inc.

It was on a quick stopover going from Hong Kong to South America that this newly-retired couple decided on a whim to lay roots in Sausalito, California after a decades-long residence in Taiwan. The original space, a 70’s era home with panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay, lacked the unique charm and character desired to match the client’s eclectic tastes. Seeking to infuse a sense of their unique personal style, the homeowners tasked Feldman Architecture with the challenge of transforming the property into a sophisticated library of vinyl records, design books, and vintage Coca-Cola bottles; a place to appreciate their collections while soaking in the ever-changing view. The Feldman team achieved this stunning transformation by bringing down an interior wall and adding 9-foot-high floor-to-ceiling shelving with asymmetrical compartments so every item has a place of significance. The contemporary 1,000-square-foot open-plan media room tops a library sitting three floors down. With walls of glass to enjoy the expansive views of the Bay, the library sits at the core of the residence, taking the place of two spare bedrooms with small bay windows and out-of-date storage spaces. A former third bedroom on the same floor was converted to a gym, effectively refreshing the space in a style reflective of the improved design.

Céline Flagship Store in Miami, Florida by VALERIO OLGIATI

Monday, October 15th, 2018

Article source: VALERIO OLGIATI

A marble shell is laid over an existing two-storey structure. The facades, floors, walls, ceilings are entirely made of marble. The blue-green Pinta Verde from Brazil is exceptional and creates a wonderful atmosphere for Céline. The exhibition space on the ground floor is a canopy, held by concrete pillars. These columns connect the entire building to the foundation. The virtual world exists in parallel with the physical. Above is a space deep inside the marble, where shoes and ready-to-wear are displayed. More tent than boutique, this is a place where an internal universe can be imagined.

Caterpillar House in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California by Feldman Architecture, Inc.

Monday, October 15th, 2018

Article source: Feldman Architecture, Inc.

The design for the Caterpillar House, sited on the softly rolling hills of the Santa Lucia Preserve, sought to accentuate a connection to the land. Having lived in a Cliff May home, the client came to the project with a love of modern ranch houses and looking for an environmentally-conscious response to a beautiful site. The Caterpillar House implements sustainable elements while exploring a contemporary version of the ranch ideals: massing that is low and horizontal, an open plan with a strong connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, and main living areas that center informally on the kitchen.

Easton Residence in California by Diebel and Company | Architects

Friday, October 12th, 2018

Article source: Diebel and Company | Architects

Easton Residence is a modern departure from 1920s California Spanish architectural grandeur. Its original romantic charm is transformed with modern design. The design blends previous expansions with a sleek reconfiguration of the house for contemporary living. It has a modern take on characteristic stucco walls, low-pitched clay tile roofs, sweeping arches, and wrought-iron railings.

Medly Pharmacy in New York by Sergio Mannino Studio

Friday, October 12th, 2018

Article source: Sergio Mannino Studio

Medly Pharmacy is a new neighborhood pharmacy in Brooklyn, owned by Marg and Sahaj Patel and designed by Sergio Mannino Studio.

Retailers have begun to understand the necessity of transforming businesses into every-channel retail platforms, where online and physical stores work as one, not needing to compete with each other. Pharmacies in particular are beginning to take advantage of this, with Medly being among the first in New York to do embrace the merits of both online and physical. Medly has designed a free complementary app that saves customers the hassle of having to leave the house when sick, let alone having to wait in line for hours just to get prescriptions. But a successful online business needs a physical counterpart and our design for Medly has been created with this in mind.
