520 West 28th in New York by Zaha Hadid Architects

Monday, May 7th, 2018

Article source: Zaha Hadid Architects

There is a powerful urban dynamic between the streets of New York and the High Line, a layered civic realm that has developed over generations and in many iterations. 520 West 28th conveys this contextual relationship, applying new ideas and concepts to create the latest evolution of the site’s rich history.

The split levels of the design define varied living spaces and echoes the multiple layers of civic space on 28th Street and the High Line.

Blue Bottle South Park in San Francisco, California by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson

Friday, May 4th, 2018

Article source: Bohlin Cywinski Jackson

The first of several Bohlin Cywinski Jackson-designed cafés to be completed for Blue Bottle, this new 1,200-square-foot South Park location transforms the street-level storefront of a former Kohler warehouse into a light-filled, deliberately minimal interior space. The design reveals the site’s inherent beauty by stripping away the frivolous and unnecessary, elevating the most essential attributes of the architecture, such as original brick walls and heavy timber support columns, and enhancing the visible connection to the bustling SoMa streets.

Ica Miami in Florida by ARANGUREN & GALLEGOS ARQUITECTOS SL

Monday, April 23rd, 2018

Article source: ARANGUREN & GALLEGOS ARQUITECTOS SL

The new headquarters of the ICA MIAMI Foundation emerges with the desire to be an international artistic reference and an icon of Miami´s cultural offer. The museum offers itself to the city, and is conceived within the dispersed urbanism of the “Miami Design District” as a luminous cubic volume, as a “Magic Box”, a “Boite à Miracle”, open on its two north and south fronts through two perforated and reflective facades.

The program of an institution such as the ICA Miami is already an attractive announcement, but why deprive the spaces that host it of a certain degree of seduction?

Venice House in California by pod architecture + design

Friday, April 20th, 2018

Article source: pod architecture + design

Venice House is a compact, three-story house in Venice Beach, CA, huddled among the neighborhood’s densely packed residences and detached garages. The sloping trapezoidal roof and white metal and warm wood exterior walls make it stand out in the crush of houses.

There were just 700 square feet on which to begin custom-designing a modern three-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath house for this family of four. Since we couldn’t build out, we built up, stacking spatial needs vertically, starting with an open two-car garage and private outdoor living space on the ground level.
