By locating glass partitioned offices at each corner we could take advantage of the floor plan configuration and create the desired variety and compartmentalization that was required by the tenant. Reflects in Cleveland, Ohio by SILO AR+DFriday, November 24th, 2017Article source: SILO AR+D Reflects is a winner of an architect-led design build competition for a temporary “treehouse” structure that became a centerpiece of the Cleveland Botanical Garden’s 2015 summer show. The brief called for an innovative treehouse design that reconnected guests of all ages to the outdoors through interactive experiences that reveal the physical, emotional, and developmental benefits of staying engaged with outdoor environments. The chosen site was the Secret Garden, a walled court with no trees surrounded by manicured gardens adjacent to the existing Botanical Garden building. Body Factory in New York by BFDO ArchitectsMonday, November 20th, 2017Article source: v2com A dramatically-lit, eye-catching retail space for Dermalogica, an award-winning skincare line, leads to a series of closed, private therapy rooms in back. The retail space is a tall faceted enclosure of triangular panels surfaced in troweled concrete, visible to passers-by through storefront windows. The panels are illuminated indirectly by LED tape lights in the gaps between them. Floors are polished concrete. Along the side walls, products line the floating acrylic shelving units; the shelves themselves are edge-lit by hidden LEDs. Overhead, a custom triangular LED light fixture frames the edge of the paneled surface where it stops to expose the ceiling. Washington Fruit & Produce HQ by Graham Baba ArchitectsMonday, November 13th, 2017Article source: Graham Baba Architects Surrounded by the world’s most high-tech fruit packing warehouses, the 16,500-square-foot Washington Fruit & Produce Co. headquarters is conceived as an oasis amidst a sea of concrete and low-lying brush landscape. Tucked behind land forms and site walls, this courtyard-focused office complex provides a refuge from the noise and activity of the industrial processing yards nearby. Taking its design cue from an aging barn that the client had identified as a favorite, the concept seeks to capture the essence of an utilitarian agricultural aesthetic. A simple exposed structure that employs a limited material palette and natural patina, the design merges rural vernacular with an equally spare contemporary aesthetic. The L-shaped building is nested into the landscape through the use of board-formed concrete site walls and earthen berms that wrap the perimeter to form a central, landscaped courtyard. Soil excavated for foundation work was repurposed for the perimeter berms, eliminating the need to remove it or add more.
