Four & Four House in West Vancouver, Canada by McLeod Bovell Modern Houses

Thursday, March 30th, 2023

Article source: McLeod Bovell Modern Houses

Situated on a steep waterfront lot flanked by suburban context, the Four & Four House knits together the client’s affinity for mid-century, post-and-beam construction with contemporary adaptations. The site’s generous width with its semi-naturalized condition presented an opportunity for landscape elements to organize the sequence of the house in the form of four distinct courtyards. Clad in locally-milled yellow cedar, four massive beams frame these spaces:

Container House in West Vancouver, Canada by McLeod Bovell Modern Houses

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2018

Article source: McLeod Bovell Modern Houses

The Container House is a commission for a couple with three grown children who requested a compact and simplified living arrangement with an eye to retirement. They sought spaces that offered the ease of an apartment with the addition of inviting and sizeable covered outdoor areas. Moving from a family house that was situated on a flat, heavily treed lot to a steeply sloping mountain-side property created the opportunity for a bright and open house, perched high above the ground.

Article source: Patkau Architects Inc.

The Gleneagles Community Centre is located on a small, gently sloping site adjacent to a public golf course. The program is organized on three levels to minimize the building footprint. By subtly reshaping the cross-sectional topography of the site, the lower level and the intermediate level are both located on grade.
