Deltek Clarity survey provides closer look at A/E industry

February 26th, 2015 by Megan Miller

The Annual Deltek Clarity A&E Industry Study checks the temperature of the A&E industry with participating firms of every shape and size throughout the United States and Canada.

Last year, Deltek’s Annual Clarity A&E Industry Study, painted a picture of an industry on the rebound, but with room for improvement. Firm financial performance was on the rise and participants predicted work would grow over the next 18 months, with more than 58% of opportunities in the private sector.

This year, Clarity will examine the industry in even greater detail.

For the first time, participants will be asked about business development and project management in addition to financial practices. Produced in collaboration with the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), ACEC Canada and the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS), the study will dive into the top challenges facing A&E firms and which markets are expected to be hot in the next 18 months. Additional questions focus on project performance and collaboration.

The result? Key insights for A/E/C firms from their peers regarding challenges faced and opportunities anticipated – plus the opportunity to measure your firm against others along the entire project lifecycle.

Last year’s report included more than 250,000 data points from more than 350 U.S. and Canadian firms. Some of its key findings included:

  • Operating profit rates continued to rise for the fourth year in a row, reaching 11.1% last year.
  • The utilization rate recovered in 2011 from its recession lows, but since then has been range-bound between 58% and 59%.
  • From 2013 to 2014, the net labor multiplier inched ahead reaching 2.99%.
  • The 2014 overhead rate continued to fall and was at the lowest since the recession began at 161.1%.

What will this year’s Clarity A&E study reveal? Its findings depend on you.

There is no cost to participate in Clarity 2015 or download the results, which will be available in June.

I encourage you to participate today and check back this summer to compare your firm’s performance that of your peers.
