ClearEdge3D Unveils Verity 2.0: Revolutionizing Construction Verification with Enhanced Integration and Precision

August 23rd, 2024 by Sanjay Gangal

ClearEdge3D, a pioneering force in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry, has once again raised the bar with the launch of Verity 2.0. This new release marks a significant milestone in construction verification, offering seamless integration with Autodesk® Revit® and introducing advanced features that promise to revolutionize QA/QC workflows across the industry.

In a recent interview with Sanjay Gangal, Kelly Cone, Chief Strategy Officer at ClearEdge3D, elaborated on the company’s mission to make point clouds truly useful. “At ClearEdge, we see our role as transforming raw point cloud data into something much more valuable,” Cone explained. “Instead of just dealing with a sea of dots, we aim to make this data actionable, improving accuracy and efficiency in construction projects.”

A Leap Forward with Verity 2.0

Building on the success of its predecessor, Verity 2.0 offers enhanced capabilities designed to close the loop between design and construction. The software allows users to compare point cloud data with BIM models directly within Revit, providing precise, real-time insights into the accuracy of as-built models. This integration is particularly crucial in ensuring that the final construction matches the original design, thereby minimizing costly errors and rework.

Cone, who has been instrumental in the development of Verity, emphasized the importance of this integration: “When we launched Verity, our goal was to provide a tool that not only checks what’s been done in the field but also feeds that information back into the coordination process. The addition of Revit integration takes this a step further, allowing for detailed documentation of deviations and ensuring that these discrepancies are addressed before they become bigger issues.”

Addressing Industry Challenges

The need for accurate as-built models is a significant challenge in the AEC industry. Traditional design software often assumes perfect conditions—flat walls, straight beams, and level floors. However, real-world construction rarely matches these idealized conditions. Verity 2.0 addresses this gap by providing tools that accurately reflect the true state of a project, helping to identify and correct issues early in the construction process.

One of the standout features of Verity 2.0 is its ability to rapidly generate heat maps and color-coded reports that highlight deviations in installed elements. This allows project teams to quickly identify areas where installation does not match the design, facilitating timely interventions that can save time and money.

Seamless Integration and Enhanced Documentation

One of the key advancements in Verity 2.0 is its deep integration with Revit, which has been a direct response to customer feedback. “Our customers repeatedly asked for better documentation tools,” Cone said. “Revit is a powerful engine for documentation, and by integrating Verity with Revit, we’ve enabled our users to document deviations directly within their existing workflows. This not only saves time but also ensures that all project stakeholders have access to the most accurate and up-to-date information.”

The new version also includes the ability to automatically generate as-built geometry within Revit, a feature that Cone highlighted as a game-changer for the industry. “Modeling as-builts in traditional design software is notoriously difficult because these systems aren’t designed to handle the imperfections of real-world conditions. Verity 2.0 changes that by allowing users to create accurate as-built models directly from point cloud data, streamlining the entire process.”

Expanding Horizons with EdgeWise and Everything 3D

In addition to Verity, ClearEdge3D continues to innovate with its EdgeWise software, which automates the extraction of pipes, ducts, and other elements from point cloud data. This tool has now been integrated with a broader range of design platforms, including AVEVA’s Everything 3D (E3D). This expansion reflects ClearEdge3D’s commitment to meeting the diverse needs of its customers, many of whom work across multiple platforms.

“Integrating EdgeWise with E3D was a natural next step for us,” Cone noted. “As more customers migrate to E3D from older systems, the demand for tools that can seamlessly bridge the gap between point cloud data and intelligent design models has grown. We spent over a year refining this integration, and the result is a tool that dramatically simplifies the process of modeling as-builts in complex plant environments.”

Looking Ahead

As ClearEdge3D continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the AEC industry, the release of Verity 2.0 and the expansion of EdgeWise demonstrate the company’s unwavering commitment to innovation. By focusing on the practical needs of its users and leveraging cutting-edge technology, ClearEdge3D is not only enhancing existing workflows but also paving the way for new possibilities in construction verification and as-built modeling.
