2023 Vectorworks Design Scholarship: Meet the Winners

Vectorworks has always been a strong supporter of the world’s next designers. So much so, we recently held our seventh Vectorworks Design Scholarship competition where undergraduate and graduate students in major disciplines related to architecture, landscape architecture, landscape design, entertainment, and interior design were able to submit a new design or past project from any of their classes for the chance to win up to $10,000 USD.

With over 1,000 submissions, this year’s winners came from all corners of the globe, such as Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Poland, Turkey, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

We brought in the best of the best and had an expert panel of international judges evaluate all submissions who looked at design, technology, originality, presentation, and writing.

Architecture Winners:

  • “Bunny” by Kenneth Anggara and Marco Kuo, University of British Columbia
  • “Cohabitation Berlin” by Lena Polte and Celina Rodewald, Leibniz University Hannover
  • “Loch on Wood” by Dylan Baliski, University of Dundee
  • “Over the Coal Ruins” by Nicolas Moraga, Columbia Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation
  • “Reground” by Elischa Bischof, ETH Zurich
  • “Sailing in the Valley” by Yuta Saito, Tokyo University of the Arts

Interior Design Winners:

  • “Designing security in isolation. Supportive penal architecture based on conceptual interior design project of women’s prison in Ostróda” by Ksenia Makala, Academy of Fine Arts Katowice
  • “Nightsleeper – Redesign of the Interior” by Hanna Leiber, Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences
  • “Unite Student Accommodation Design Proposal” by Kimberly Affleck, Solent University
  • “[Waves] High Involvement – Public Art in the Park” by Li Zhounan, Osaka University of Art

Kimberley Affleck’s interior design project, “Unite Student Accommodation Design Proposal,” is one of the winning projects in this year’s Vectorworks Design Scholarship.

For a job well done, winners received the equivalent of up to $3,000 USD in their local currency. Plus, the winner’s schools receive free Vectorworks Design Suite software and free virtual workshop training for faculty and students.

We’re incredibly proud of this year’s winners. Their exceptional talents and potential are evident, and it’s clear that our world is in good hands as they will continue to make remarkable and innovative contributions to the industry.

Luc Lefebvre, OAQ, LEED AP, has 30 years of experience in the architectural field, including architecture project management and BIM management, and as an industry expert in the software and technology industry. Luc consistently strives to find new ways to gain efficiencies in the design process and, more specifically, with BIM projects. Luc uses his knowledge of Vectorworks and professional practice experience to help other firms adopt more efficient workflows and transition to a BIM process. As the product marketing manager for architecture, he bridges market demand with the engineering team, supports sales and customer success, and cultivates relationships with Vectorworks users.
