Are you a CAD User that is watching the world go BIM?
September 16th, 2014 by Isaac Harper
Well, let me ask you this…
Question: What’s New in Revit 2015?
Answer: ME! (& YOU should be also!)
Wait… Before you call me a cheater and leave! I still love AutoCAD (always will) and still plan to continue Teaching, Supporting, and passing along AutoCAD’s Newest Features on this Blog! But, I wanted to invite you to CADsoft’s A Word on BIM blog as well.
That’s right BIMMERs; We CADDERs are crashing the party!
CADsoft’s Revit blog offers a lot expertise on Industry Tends, or in-depth Revit topics that we like to share, and was perfect for the more experienced Revit user. (Until Now!) I have been asked to contribute to the BIM Blog; but I wanted to bring something for my AutoCAD users. After careful consideration and review of the existing Revit Blog, I felt it needs a section for “New Revit Users with an AutoCAD based background” to help ease them into BIM…
…and the Bippity Boppity BIM, section was born in our Revit Blog area.

So… If you are still a CAD user, and realize that BIM is becoming more and more popular and you know that you need to take that leap sooner than later? Then, The Bippity Boppity BIM section in our Revit blog is design just for you, using what you already know from AutoCAD based software. The good news is; since they are both Autodesk products. So in the months to come I will try and share tips, comparisons, and explore many similar workflows and interfaces to make this transition from CAD to BIM as easy as possible for you.
Luckily, CADsoft has some pretty talented experienced Revit Users already. (I bet they will get sick of me bugging them, since I plan on attacking Revit the same way I did when I was learning AutoCAD.) But the CADsoft Family is very close, so I am sure they will be willing to assist in any way they can. Right Guys? 😉
“So I am not leaving… my AutoCAD Blog will continue as normal… I’m just expanding.
If you are not familiar with the term BIM, please review this short Autodesk video that explains what BIM is, and why its technology will soon be taking over the way Buildings and Infrastructures are Planned, Design, Constructed, and Managed all from a virtual model.
What is BIM Video:
Who knows, maybe in another 30 years the blog topic will be “BIM there, Done that!” and we get to learn something else that doesn’t even exist yet!!! (But for now let’s take BIM, one bite at a time.)
