Integrates the use of the computer with the classical,
manual methods of analysis.
Provides a set of computer programs (on CD-ROM), which
can be used for various types of structural analysis -- ranging
from the computation of the member end loads and reactive loads for
a statically determinate truss or frame by solving a set of equilibrium
equations, to the computation of the displacements, member end loads
and reactive loads for a statically indeterminate truss or frame by
the Stiffness Method.
- The programs allow students to analyze a structure for
a variety of conditions in order to determine how changes in the properties
of the structure or of the applied loads affect the response of the
structure.
- The output for some of the programs is limited to numeric
output, while the output of other programs consists of screen
plots -- such as the shear force and bending moment diagrams
for a beam, the influence lines for the member forces in a plane truss,
and the deflected shape of a truss or frame due to a set of applied
loads.
Features example problems that first demonstrate the
procedure for solving the problem manually, and then solve the same
problem using a computer program that is included in the book.
Contains numerous chapter-end problems that require
students to first solve the problem manually and then to check their
solutions using an appropriate computer program.
The programs include:
- SDPTRUSS*: Statically determinate plane truss analysis
using equilibrium equations.
- SDPFRAME*: Statically determinate plane frame analysis
using equilibrium equations.
- BEAMIL: Plot influence lines for reactions, shear
force and bending moment for beams.
- SEQSOLVE: Solve set of linear simultaneous equations
by Gauss-Jordan Elimination.
- PTRUSSIL: Plot influence lines for member forces
in plane trusses.
- SDSTRUSS*: Statically determinate space truss analysis
using equilibrium equations.
- BEAMVM: Plot shear force and bending moment diagrams
and deflected shape for beams.
- SDSFRAME*: Statically determinate space frame analysis
by equilibrium equations.
- FLEX*: Statically determinate or statically indeterminate
analysis by the Flexibility Method.
- PTRUSS*: Plane truss analysis by the Stiffness
Method.
- PFRAME*: Plane frame analysis by the Stiffness
Method.
- FATPAK II: A student edition of a commercial, general
purpose structural analysis package (Stiffness Method) which is in
use in a number of structural engineering offices in both the United
States and several foreign countries.
Supplies the source code (in ASCII disk files) for
several programs* to demonstrate how the various analysis procedures
can be implemented on the computer.
