A. H. McCoy Federal Office Building in Jackson, Mississippi by Schwartz/Silver Architects

Wednesday, August 7th, 2013

Article source: Schwartz/Silver Architects

Constructed as part of the General Services Administration’s Design Excellence program, Schwartz/Silver’s modernization of the A. H. McCoy Federal Building and new security pavilion has dramatically changed the urban landscape in Jackson, Mississippi. The architects took the opportunity to redefine the relationship between the city and the federal government at this site. The re-envisioned plaza provides a landscaped oasis in the city for the employees and visitors who utilize the building. And by reaching out towards the corner of the site, the invitingly scaled security pavilion creates a welcoming entry point for the building.

A once grand, but long-abandoned, state building, has been reclaimed as the new Di Tella University Campus Alcorta in Buenos Aires.  A work in progress since 2004, the ambitious re-development was designed and coordinated by RDR Arquitectos, an architectural  firm with offices in Argentina and Switzerland. The multi-national, Walters-Storyk Design Group provided integral acoustic design and consultation, and played a key role in the project’s audio/visual and interactive technology system integration.

We like the restaurants that change: that every time you go are different … changing your emotions with the type of event you want, with the environment you want to recreate … (we hate the feeders) …
we like places that speak of where you are, the climate in which they are involved, what they have at them side…
we like the restaurants that have appropriate corners, dwellings which can be tailored to each …
… seldom have found … perhaps that is why we accept the challenge of build a restaurant in a merca’o

One Workplace in Santa Clara, California by Design Blitz

Wednesday, August 7th, 2013

Article source: Design Blitz

The One Workplace Headquarters project was a unique opportunity for both One Workplace and for Design Blitz. One Workplace is the largest furniture dealer in Northern California and the single source for Steelcase furniture in the San Francisco Bay Area. The ambitious directive was to re-define the architectural standard not only of the company, but also of the showroom experience itself and create a bleeding edge, world-class workplace that serves both employees and customers alike. One Workplace had already shifted the industry paradigm of sales and showrooms away from a transactional experience to one of collaboration and partnership.

Refurbishment of a patio-house in Gracia, Barcelona (Spain) by Carles Enrich

Wednesday, August 7th, 2013

Article source: Carles Enrich

The conversion of an old dry-cleaning shop between party walls in the Gracia district court into a home-studio for a young family is a fantastic opportunity to rethink the use of an unused place and optimize the conditions.

It is proposed a system to enable the inhabitants to live in an single space arranged around the patio, where the bathroom is the only enclosed piece. All activities take place in a single room with visual contact with the patio. To achieve this, all the partitions that enclosed small rooms with no natural light or ventiliation were removed and the openings were extended to the exterior.
