Beefeater in London, England by Lee Boyd

Saturday, August 30th, 2014

Article source: Lee Boyd

Lee Boyd has recently collaborated on the exciting new visitor centre for Beefeater Gin at their distillery in central London which now provides visitors an insight into the history of gin and an understanding of the process of gin making.  A bold new extension providing a point of entry to the centre, links the different parts of the distillery and allows visitors to move from the exhibition floor to the stills house without interrupting the day to day workings at Beefeater. Beefeater Gin is the world’s number one premium gin and has been made in the heart of London for over 150 years, the only international brand to have its distillery in the capital. Beefeater is uniquely placed to call itself the Home of Gin and tell the intriguing story of the entwined history of London and Gin.

A public art gathering place pavilion by Michael Jantzen

Saturday, August 30th, 2014

Article source: Michael Jantzen

This functional art structure was designed for a small public park as a gathering place for the visitors. The prefabricated pavilion is made of painted sustainably grown wood. The structure is nineteen feet wide, and twenty feet tall. It’s shape was generated from a basic octagon form that was folded out around the perimeter, and at the top. The basic octagon form consists of a support frame onto which the slated wood panels are hinged out and secured into position with steel bolts.

House of Backstage in Tokushima city, Japan by y+M

Saturday, August 30th, 2014

Article source: y+M

Location of the house is near Mt. Bizan in Tokushima city. The site is one of five compartmental areas where we can see beautiful view of the mountain toward southeast. We designed the house for client family of four (couple and their children) who newly move to there. We designed the “big wall” which is used for exterior wall and fence. The wall cut the undesirable view of neighboring houses in the other compartment and 8-story building of prefectural condominium.

TRANSFORMATION TOWNHALL BORSELE in Heinkenszand, Netherlands by Atelier Kempe Thill architects

Saturday, August 30th, 2014

Article source: Atelier Kempe Thill architects

The municipality of Borsele in the Dutch province of Zeeland was founded in 1970 by the merging of 13 villages. Heinkenszand was assigned centre of this newly formed administrative unit and a new town hall was built for the 25.000 inhabitants. More then 30 years after the opening, the building was in need of rehabilitation. On the one hand, the façade as well as the roof weren’t fully waterproof anymore. Furthermore, the building had to undergo an asbestos abatement to adapt to modern building standards. On the other hand the interior of the building had to be renovated in order to create a flexible and modern office environment. The building climate had to be improved in order to reduce energy loss.

Noto River runs nearby the house. At there people can enjoy watching gleam of fireflies in summer, and beautiful color leaves in autumn, besides we sometimes see deer visits to the riverside. We suggested the house where our client can enjoy the abundant gift from nature by designing an open garden nearby the riverside.

Office KCN Marunda in Jakarta, Indonesia by Atelier Cosmas Gozali

Friday, August 29th, 2014

Article source: Atelier Cosmas Gozali

Marunda is a beach in northern Jakarta shoreline, where huge container ships dock in this place. The fragments of concrete piles functioned as wave breaker and box‐shaped building with sloped roofing, lined in a row on the calm shoreline. From the open sea, those buildings looked alike with each other, often render the sailors difficult to find the place to dock.
