Lycée Louis Barthou in Pau, France by Pierre Marsan

Monday, September 8th, 2014

Article source: Pierre Marsan

In this project, a forest delimits a vast area in the centre of a major heritage site in the City of Pau. The forest is crossed by a network of paths and clearings. A series of shelters and a sanitary facility define a large courtyard. The ground is deformed arbitrarily by folding and unfolding that create volumes where the ground, walls and roofs become a single entity.

Bedaux-Nagengast Residence in Tilburg, Netherlands by Bedaux de Brouwer Architects

Monday, September 8th, 2014

Article source: Bedaux de Brouwer Architects

Thomas Bedaux of Bedaux de Brouwer Architecten designed this single family residence for his family on the edge of a residential area in Tilburg, the Netherlands. Recent changes in the zoning plan yielded a previously non existing lot that is situated at the intersection of three distinctly different worlds. These worlds, an existing block of row houses from the 1950’s, farm land with roaming sheep and an active cemetery, provided unique opportunities that informed the design.

HILLSIDE in Stellenbosch, South Africa by GASS Architecture Studios

Monday, September 8th, 2014

Article source: GASS Architecture Studios

ON ARRIVAL…
Situated on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains in Stellenbosch and nestled between rolling vineyards, a koppie (small granite hill) and a river below, Hillside is simultaneously arresting and juxtaposed as fits flawlessly into its surroundings. You approach the house up a steep driveway meandering through the vineyards. The driveway and the forecourt are a modern interpretation of a traditional farmhouse. This is characterized overall by the planning of the house’s location but also more specifically by the gravel driveway, expansive forecourt, drive-in open garaging reminiscent of a barn and water feature evocative of an animal’s drinking trough. This modern drinking trough is then fed by a modernist architectural waterspout from the roof of the house.

GSNA in Paris, France by PHILIPPE DUBUS ARCHITECTES

Monday, September 8th, 2014

Article source: PHILIPPE DUBUS ARCHITECTES

Urban yet bucolic, this project rounds out the urban renewal of the Courghain district in Dunkirk’s suburbs. The venue is divided between the very city-oriented square of the same name and a watergang (a small Dutch-like canal). All the more so because the city’s urban planner called for facades on each of the surrounding streets and blocks on the square while the project only contains 57 social housing units.
