The number of cruise ships coming to Rotterdam and docking at the Cruise Terminal is increasing each year. To cope with this growth and associated baggage handling, TomDavid Architects have designed an industrial structure that brings together business and pleasure: a Pop Up Luggage Space (P.U.L.S.) with an elevated terrace providing stunning views over the river and of Rotterdam’s skyline.
A-cero presents one of his last works in single family house. It is a residence of 1250 sqm built on a plot of 1,700 sqm.
Access from the street is produced by an entrance for vehicles and people but with separate application. All the limit of the plot is enclosed with a fence designed by A-cero made in the stone itself housing and black galvanized steel. The plot has a manicured garden noted for its practicality and consistency with the architecture of the house. The facade is made of limestone and black glass. In this case, Joaquín Torres and Rafael Llamazares project a more orthogonal design following the clients preferences, although the essence of the A-cero style. Are remarkable volumes in stone overhangs and large glass panels in black.
In 2010, when the architects were invited to the concept design phase, it was widespread that the area including the site would transform into a commercial zone (change in Floor-Area Ratio to occur: 250% ? 400%) within next 10 years. The client required three important factors into the design. First, the design should not stand out alone from the neighboring buildings, but still acquire the company¡¯s brand image. Second, to consider that it is IT related company therefore requires high-security, which limits openings. Third, to include a small theater and a gallery for the employees and the public in respect to cultural context that will continue from Seoul Art Center (note that Seoul Art Center is in close proximity of KHvatec Headquarters).
Built on speculation, this tropical modern residence is located on DiLido Island in Miami Beach. Open water views of Biscayne Bay informed the design of this six-bedroom home. The Master Suite and Great Room feature walls of glass, while generous overhangs protect the home from the elements. In 2010 the former Kralings Museum at the Hoflaan was transformed into a luxury apartment building. The building consists of three apartments with a common entrance and a lift to the upper floors. The project Casa F involves the apartment on the second floor and contains 193 m2 with 25 m2 of outdoor space.
Straddling the border of Potrero Hill and the Mission District in San Francisco, Rowan at 346 Potrero is a 70-unit mixed-use residential building. The goal of the project is to strike a chord of continuity with the industrial past of Potrero and the Mission and celebrate its urban, transit-oriented future.
LATITUDE’s pavilion proposal for the Chicago Architectural Biennial is a multifunctional space featured with a few key elements: a platform to elevate the pavilion one foot above street level; a cantilever roof to create an expressive space together with aluminum leaves; and a movable wall to adjust the size of the enclosed area.
