Hello Lisbon Castelo in Portugal by Andre Espinho Arquitectura

Sunday, May 21st, 2017

Article source: Andre Espinho Arquitectura

This kind of intervention stands for a new approach and vision on the built heritage of big cities which, most of time, are left to abandonment and abrasion of time for different reasons, either these are historical, social or economic.

In this example we can highlight the Investor´s will and initiative, along with the knowledge of technicians, Architects, Engineers and builders to restore life and dignity to a building that was in a great state of degradation and which purpose has been mischaracterized over time. In a contemporary perspective and in it´s own context, we tried to enhance the experience of inhabiting the intrinsic features of the new and the old, in order to keep the most of the building´s character and expression also in the articulation of its interior space.

DC Towers I + II in Vienna, Austria by Dominique Perrault Architecture

Thursday, May 18th, 2017

Article source: Dominique Perrault Architecture

The design of the two high-rise towers for the Donau-City in Vienna represents the concluding phase of a development extending over several decades: on what was originally a municipal rubbish tip the UNO-City was erected (1973–1979), tentative plans to hold the 1995 Vienna-Budapest EXPO here were soon abandoned, as a result architects Krischanitz and Neumann (commissioned by WED AG) produced an urban design masterplan for the area in 1992. The outcome is an entirely new urban district with a diverse range of functions.

Habitat 67 in Montréal, Canada by UQAM Centre de Design

Wednesday, May 17th, 2017

Article source: v2com

This summer, the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) Centre de Design will host a special exhibition examining architect Moshe Safdie’s pioneering urban housing complex Habitat ’67, its manifestation over the course of Safdie’s global career, and its lasting influence on the architectural field at large. A Canadian National Heritage Site and living landmark, Habitat ’67 evolved from Safdie’s thesis project at McGill University and was commissioned by the Canadian government, the province of Quebec, and the city of Montreal as a major, living exhibition for the 1967 World’s Exposition. From the moment it opened, Habitat ’67 captured the international public imagination and has become an enduring icon of Expo ’67 and Canadian pride. It remains to this day a source of inspiration for architecture devoted to humanistic ideals.
