TG-Studio has transformed this 3 bed room penthouse located in the grade 1 listed St Pancras chambers. The apartment is one of three penthouses in the 52 unit development by the Manhattan loft corporation. It covers the top three floors of the west tower of this famous London landmark.

The undefined center of Almere Buiten on either side of the railways is in the process of undergoing a major make over. The new Masterplan envisions building blocks with a mix of apartments, retail (large and small scale) as well as public functions. In order to create an attractive environment for apartments situated above large scale retail developments, the urban planner launched the theme “Extravert”, extra green.

Bogotá has had a renowned tradition in building high-quality social housing projects. The site, given its privileged location, presented a unique opportunity to once again claim the throne in contemporary social housing developments. Rather than work with a single apartment, we chose to scale up the unit to a group of 16 apartments.

Named for the scientist whose research first alerted the world to the possibility of the human impact on global atmospheric carbon, the apartments employ a suite of tactics to address Southern California’s pressing environmental challenges of stormwater management, water scarcity, and carbon emissions.

The architectural proposal tries to introduce a program of a more contemporary dwelling, with apartment units with two bedrooms and two-storey lofts, ground floor and first floor, with a private outside space. Each dwelling has two orientations (East and West), cross ventilation and solar protection in the West spaces through a balcony with mobile exterior elements made of stretch aluminum.
