La Olivia in Barcelona, Spain by RÄS studio

Tuesday, October 4th, 2016

Article source: RÄS studio

We are an architecture studio from Barcelona that grew among the floods –and the delusions– from another generation. We closely walk with our projects, questioning assumed models and redrawing possible relationships between the architect, the space and who inhabits it. The result is a thoughtful and efficient architecture, sensitive but bold, and as affordable as shocking. Here we present three of our projects.

Article source: NAS ARCHITECTURE

The main wall of “Breath Box” is reflective, facing the horizon. It does not only recreate the image of the sea, it transforms by its own attributes. The wind comes lift the many reflective modules, providing a duality between visual experience and reflection ripple.

Shadowboxx in Lopez Island, Washington by Olson Kundig Architects

Friday, February 22nd, 2013

Article source: Olson Kundig Architects

Shadowboxx responds to a desire to facilitate an intimate understanding of its setting and explores the tradition of gathering around a fire. The site for this island retreat is a remote, windy point of land in the San Juan Islands in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Tucked between a thicket of trees and a rising bank, the house angles toward the bluff with its fifty-foot drop to the sea and view of the Olympic Mountains beyond.

In summer 2011, we bathed for the first time in the newly finished sauna of Box. Box is a fishermen’s village located in south-western archipelago of Finland. We are working on the conversion of the former Box village school into a residence, and the first part of the project was to build a sauna into the school’s old storage and toilet building by the seashore.
