Olympia Tile & Stone Showroom in Toronto, Canada by II BY IV DESIGN

Sunday, June 25th, 2017

Article source: II BY IV DESIGN

As front-runners in the Tile and Stone industry, Olympia Tile has great influence over styling and demand, particularly within North America, but also worldwide.

Their flagship showroom occupies an entire block and features over 37,000 square feet of space open to the public, which is nothing short of grand. Employing natural stone sourced from the client’s product line, we created a contemporary, fashion-forward space with a bold architectural feel that references a gallery experience and high-end retail.

082 Showroom Interrato in Lucca, Italy by MIDE architetti

Sunday, June 11th, 2017

Article source: MIDE architetti

The project for the new Gianni Chiarini’ s showroom in Milan consists in a partially hypogeum exhibition space, located underneath an historical building in the heart of the city.

The access has been re-set up through a recessed patio in the courtyard pavement, which hosts the new stairway that leads to the showroom below. This morphological operation modifies the ground floor of the external area, emphasising the entrance and inviting the visitor to descend. The resulting basement patio has therefore transformed into a small garden, a formal filter between the public space and the more intimate and welcoming internal showroom.

Showroom And Offices For Furniture Company in Brno-Vinohrady, Czech Republic by Chybik+Kristof Architects & Urban Designers

Thursday, May 11th, 2017

Article source: Chybik+Kristof Architects & Urban Designers

The transformation of a former car show room on the outskirts of a housing estate into a site of the MY DVA group, focusing on the production of office, school and metal furniture, represents another finished structure of the young architecture firm CHYBIK + KRISTOF Architects & Urban Designers from Brno. The single-storey building of a poor aesthetic quality turned into a building with a new, easily remembered façade composed of more than 900 black plastic seats. The façade is conceived abstractly, functioning also as a banner advert for the firm itself. After finishing a simple refurbishment of its interior, a new flexible showroom was created presenting the individual segments of the firm´s production in specific, thematically arranged settings.

SELFRIDGES in London by Klein Dytham architecture

Tuesday, April 25th, 2017

Article source: Klein Dytham architecture

KDA redesigned 1,800m2 of luxury goods retail space on the ground floor of Selfridges & Co’s famous Oxford Street store. Finding inspiration in the way stores fit neatly behind the existing architecture of London’s Victorian shopping arcades, and in the notion of wunderkammer – room-sized displays of interesting or exotic objects – KDa created the Wonder Room, a spaced that housed “a luxury goods emporium with the energy of a souk.”

Carlo Pazolini Brompton in London, England by Giorgio Borruso Design

Thursday, April 13th, 2017

Article source: Giorgio Borruso Design

Carlo Pazolini, Brompton Rd is a 120 sqm space in Knightsbridge, London, housing men’s and women’s shoes and accessories. The design marks an evolution of the Carlo Pazolini worldwide store concept integrating specificities of site. Our design sought to recognize the memory of the adjacent 18th Century Brompton Arcade (now part of a retail store) by recreating a contemporary barrel vault ceiling as well as the illusion via a mirror wall that the space opens to the exterior at the back. An historical detail in the facade was used as a generative “seed” for the interior geometric language and led us to a pointed rather than semicircular barrel vault design. The memorialization of this neighboring arcade space led to a tunnel-like twisting of the interior in such a way that the floor, walls, and ceiling become wrapped into one another, creating a vortex of movement from front to back in which design elements flock like schools of fish moving through a turbulent fluid environment.

LORD & TAYLOR Ridge Hill in New York by Giorgio Borruso Design

Wednesday, April 12th, 2017

Article source: Giorgio Borruso Design

LEGACY AND INNOVATION

Lord & Taylor, founded in 1826, is the oldest specialty department store chain in the country. They built the first suburban department stores, which became models for a new retail typology. In 1953, Lord & Taylor presented an award for independent thinking to Albert Einstein for his “nonconformity” in scientific matters. The company has an especially interesting story to tell in terms of both its history and its connection to high-level architectural design in its department stores. The projects developed under the leadership of Dorothy Shaver with Raymond Loewy provide a rich catalogue of inspiration. The spatial and formal fluidity in these early works was something we looked to rediscover, in particular, for the store in Ridge Hill, both in terms of the building’s relationship to its context as well as the experience of the public.

As the first new L&T store since 2001, our goal was to realize a project that honors the legacy of an iconic and historic partnership in design, both in terms of its architectural and urban presence (evolving the “big box” store) and its technological and design creativity.
