New solar energy-plus child day-care centre in Marburg, Germany by opus Architekten

Tuesday, March 28th, 2017

Article source: opus Architekten

The design concept identifies three key concerns. Firstly: the need to slot a new building into the topography and character of a 19th century park with respect to its historic neighbouring structures, in particular a nearby chapel. Secondly: the desire to create a welcoming and lively educational environment both for children and the adults who work there. And last but not least: the aspiration to employ innovative technology to create a building that produces more energy than it consumes.

The Sun Shaped Column is a solar powered kinetic public art sculpture made of painted steel. It is approximately 80 feet tall, and 20 feet wide. The column is hollow in the center and open at the base so visitors can walk into the center of the sculpture, and look up through it to the sky above.

The Solar Gardens Visitors Center by Jantzen Studio

Friday, October 24th, 2014

Article source: Jantzen Studio

The Solar Gardens Visitors Center was created as a proposal for a large public art structure designed to harvest energy from the sun, and to collect and store rainwater for use in and around the structure. In addition, the structure and the surrounding plaza would be made from photo catalytic concrete that cleans itself, and the air.
