AECCafe BIM Interoperability Questionnaire

Friday, August 10th, 2018

The built environment is increasingly more digitized, relying heavily on large building models to hold all aspects of a building project. Thus, the need for BIM Interoperability is greater as the necessity grows for stakeholders to be able to access the information inside these complex models.

For all those traveling to the American Institute of Architects (AIA) event in Atlanta, AECCafe will be there and interested in talking to attendees and vendors.

Some of my questions for attendees:

1) What is your interest in attending the conference?

4) What steps, if any, are being taken in your firm towards sustainable infrastructure?

An Engineering Approach to Big AEC Data

Friday, April 24th, 2015

Environmental Systems Design is a consulting engineering firm that addresses the AEC industry. According to vice president ESD Global, the company does all the engineering in the building that you can’t see “but you really notice unless it doesn’t work, such as, heating, cooling, electrical, lighting, low voltage work, computer networking and data centers.”

The $1.2 billion Kingdom Tower, which will stretch 3,280ft into the Saudi Arabian sky, has so far only been illustrated through concept sketches and a rendering showing the bank-busting building from afar.

AECCafe will be at the AIA Chicago National Convention

Wednesday, June 11th, 2014

AECCafe, in the form of Editor, Susan Smith, will be at the AIA National Convention in Chicago June 26-27th.

What that means is that our focus remains on architecture, engineering and construction from a CAD and Building Information Modeling perspective. As I ready for this conference,  I would like to hear from more CAD and BIM companies to have an awareness of your booth presence and events you might be hosting.

The areas we cover are quite vast: building information modeling, visualization, CAD, 3D printing, document management, project management, laser scanning, conceptual design, integrated project delivery, and specifications.

If you wish to set up a meeting during the convention, please contact me at susan.smith@ibsystems.com. Look forward to seeing many of you there!

Thanks,

Susan

Top AEC Predictions for 2014 – AECCafe Voice

Tuesday, January 7th, 2014

Last year’s predictions for the year, Top AEC Predictions for 2013 – AECCafe Voice, were somewhat different from this year’s. Although those predictions are still useful to note this year, I am focusing on some product directions and initiatives since there is a continuing, pressing need to address critical infrastructure, fueled largely by climate change, greenhouse gas emissions, and failing infrastructure and economy. Products developed and industries becoming more collaborative all shape the predictions of the year 2014.
