SmartBetterCities Just Released New CloudCities Version

In its first version, SmartBetterCities’ released CloudCities virtual reality tool, that can be imported from CityEngine, SketchUp and GoogleEarth. CloudCities is an online platform for hosting, sharing and visualizing smart 3D city models. The models are based on OpenStreetMap, are lightweight and used mostly by mobile users, with an easy drag-and-drop workflow. It was used in a development review at Harvard University urban campus in Kindle Square, where building sensors and monitoring were integrated into visualization.

Sefaira Announces Design Guidance for Architecture 2030’s 2030 Palette at Greenbuild 2016

Sefaira, a Trimble Company, and Architecture 2030 announced Design Guidance at Greenbuild 2016, taking place in Los Angeles October 5-7, a new functionality in Sefaira Architecture. Design Guidance uses real-time analysis results in Sefaira Architecture to deliver customized guidance on how to improve a building’s performance, and points the designer to relevant passive design strategies collated in Architecture 2030’s 2030 Palette.

The Autodesk Subscription Program Meets Bentley’s Autodesk License Upgrade Program

An ongoing topic in the AEC industry for over a year now has been the issue of Autodesk’s moving its customer base to a subscription only program. While Autodesk has given customers a lot of time to make this transition, nevertheless, the Autodesk Subscription Program means the end of the perpetual license program. The Autodesk Subscription Program is heralded by the company as the best thing for customers of Autodesk products and they have the recent earnings to prove it. In Q1 of this year, they were up 132,000 to 2.71 million.

What Do You Think of CAD Subscription Programs?

A year ago when Autodesk announced it was discontinuing perpetual software licenses for desktop standalone desktop products, many people were outraged and said they would continue to use their perpetual licenses but would not upgrade to the newly announced subscription-only model. Many users said that the cost of the subscription model would ultimately cost them more money than to have the license (licenses aren’t owned).

Renga Architecture 2.4 Version Released for Architectural CAD Design

From St. Petersburg, Russia, the ASCON Group, the developer and integrator of professional AEC, MCAD, and PLM systems, has announced the release of Renga Architecture 2.4, architectural CAD design software. The Russian company has incorporated into the new release the concerns of users, such as separate views of individual objects (such as columns, beams, windows, and doors), an update to the display style dialog box, and a way to locate offset columns and beams.
