Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Architects Ward + Blake Finalists in International Health Care Design Competition with Sustainable Radiology Center Design An innovative health care building design by Jackson Hole, Wyoming, commercial architects Ward + Blake Architects is named finalist in the International Academy for Design and Health awards for international healthcare projects under 40,000 square meters. The energy-efficient commercial design includes “daylighting” to promote wellness.
Wyoming residential and commercial architecture firm Ward + Blake Architects of Jackson Hole was named a finalist in the Design & Health International Academy Awards program sponsored by the International Academy for Design and Health (IADH) and Design & Health magazine to recognize professional excellence in the research and practice of designing healthy environments. The Jackson Hole architects were recognized in the International Healthcare Project (Under 40,000 sqm) category for their sustainable and wellness-oriented commercial architecture healthcare design of the Teton Radiology Center in Rexburg, Idaho.
Ward + Blake’s Teton Radiology Center design tapped cutting-edge healthcare architecture trends of borrowing from hospitality design and “daylighting.” Flooding the space with natural light and using natural slate, cedar and birch, the architects adapted the contemporary wellness aesthetic of the Mountain West’s popular day spas to create a relaxing treatment atmosphere. At the same time the energy-efficient commercial design incorporates the kind of green architecture elements Ward + Blake Architects are known for, from high-efficiency heating and cooling technology to easy-to-repair recycled-content carpet tiles.
The Wyoming architects’ innovative healthcare design for the Idaho imaging center was a good fit for the biannual IADH awards’ criteria of demonstrating “an understanding of the therapeutic effect of a ‘healing’ environment” while also addressing sustainability and civic context. The IADH states that its awards program “has a significant influence on the global design of humanistic environments that support health, wellbeing and quality of life.” Awards are judged by a panel of independent multi-disciplinary experts from Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania and the Americas. Ward + Blake’s use of a ‘New West’ architectural vocabulary epitomizes the growing Western Modernism movement. The Jackson Hole residential and commercial architects capture the authentic, independent spirit of the West while taking regional design in a fresh and modern direction. The Jackson, Wyo., residential and commercial architecture firm is known for its award-winning eco-friendly innovations and received the Wyoming AIA Award of Excellence.
