Intexure Live-Work Studio in Houston

After working several years in a downtown warehouse loft, Intexure’s owners, married couple Russell and Rame Hruska (both architects), transformed a vacant urban lot that had essentially been a garbage dump for many years into the site of a new Live-Work studio for their office and home. “It took a great deal of personal risk and sacrifce but has paid off with a building that represents our values”, says the couple. Furthering the process of revitalization, Intexure then developed a series of sustainable homes adjacent to the studio which balance the need for urban density with appropriate green space and areas for gathering. “What we are really seeking to do is not just design buildings but create a community”

Outdoor Space

This outdoor pavilion at Intexure serve as a community gathering space and connection point between the architects Live-Work studio and adjacent development, as well as the surrounding neighborhood. The pavilion canopy offers dappled shade above the concrete bench seating and water element, which can also accommodate a table of twelve. A children’s sand box and play area blends with the adjacent garden providing a harvest of tomatoes, basil, squash, pumpkins and okra. A native plant and butterfly garden assures there is a constant flux of butterflies in the mid-summer air. An in-ground pond adds interest at the streetscape and captures rainwater from the butterfly roof.
