Our project is composed of a large vegetative carpet and functional program boxes.

The idea of the vegetative carpet is to symbolize the natural beauty of the island of Taiwan and to raise public awareness of the urge to protect its environment:

  • The form of the vegetative carpet is the result of the dominant north wind and the functional organization of the project.
  • By creating a micro climate under its surface, the vegetative carpet reduces energy use underneath, meanwhile providing a sustainable approach to a greener harbour.
  • The colours of the different vegetations are a symbol for the native bird species and Taiwan’s diverse nature.

In essence, the Kaohsiung Port and Cruise Service Centre symbolizes the urgent need of balancing economical and environmental interests globally, as well as locally in the port of Kaohsiung.
