Dancing Living House in Yokohama by Junichi Sampei/A.L.X.

March 8th, 2011 by Sanjay Gangal

The client for this project is a married couple with dancing as a hobby. They requested a house with a dance studio which also serves as a living room and dining room.

Using living room as the dance studio felt it very important to the couple. They also requested enough light and wind for a comfortable living space. They also required it to have a strong close for high soundproofing – which added up to a number of contradictory elements.

Moreover, the size for the area of the requested studio was to occupy almost the entire first floor. Therefore, when the parking lot is secured, it has been understood that the volume of this studio appears greatly in the part of the second floor or more.

Then, it was thought that this problem could be solved if the entire building was caught like one device that soundproofed and the space was composed.

The window of externals was suppressed from the request of such a building to a minimum size. And, light is secured by arranging a top light at the edge in the building. Moreover, it made it to the buffer zone by putting water in a top light in the south where an only double zoning was not able to be done.

The inside of living room is a space where the studio is seen four times the area by pasting the mirror to two all aspects, and it is felt by a big extension.

In daily life, the curtain of a thin race is multiplied by the specular in consideration of the negative aspect to see one thing as four things. The sense that the space extends to the interior of the wall of the curtain is given. The overall effect is that it feels like a big studio because the volume in the building pushes out greatly outside.
