Reiulf Ramstad Architects are showing an exhibition in Paris with an emphasis on new projects with architecture in dialogue with the Norwegian landscape. Common for the projects shown is that they represent the agency’s desire to create an innovative, contemporary and timeless architecture with the landscape as the contextual raw material. The office has recently worked on several challenging assignments in this field, with architecture in landscapes ranging from wild magnificent scenery to cultivated land.
The exhibition focuses on projects actively in dialogue with the landscape. The projects are of varying sizes, from small private cabins to comprehensive national tourist route projects. The whole process from drawing and idea to the completed project is shown. The theme of the exhibition is the relationship between nature and architecture, with emphasis on repetition, failure, contrast, and interplay of lines and materials. Most visible is the architectural structures that repeats or contrasts the methods used in existing environments. But also through the careful use of materials, an example is the use of timber that gradually achieves a patina and blend in with the landscape. Use of glass that blur the line between indoors and outdoors. Innovative design in concrete with an emphasis on sculptural associations. We wanted to convey the common thread that runs through the office’s projects. The office has a large archive of imagery and models in scale 1:100, and will together be presented in a way that clearly shows the office’s philosophy and project characteristics.
