Withee Malcolm Architects’ Projects Receive Honors From Three Notable Awards Programs

Aviation Station, City Center Senior Apartments, TLofts and Unical Aviation are Winners

June was “sweeps” month for Withee Malcolm Architects as the firm garnered awards in three recognized programs — The Los Angeles Business Council Architectural Awards, the Industry Manufacturers Council Beautification Award, and the Gold Nuggets awards — for a diverse mix of projects that includes live/work lofts, industrial and office space, mixed-use, multifamily housing and affordable senior apartments.

The winning streak began June 7, when the Industry Manufacturers Council in the City of Industry presented the 2011 City Beautification Award to Unical Aviation, Inc. The program honors companies that have renovated existing facilities in this hard-working town’s industrial parks. Withee Malcolm transformed a non-descript distribution warehouse into inviting and highly efficient new headquarters for the fast growing aircraft parts brokerage.

During the annual Pacific Coast Builder Conference in San Francisco on June 23, Aviation Station, a mixed-use commercial and residential infill development, took home a coveted Gold Nugget Merit Award for Best On-the-Boards Mixed-Use Project and City Center Senior Apartments received the honor for Age Qualified Housing — Multifamily Community. Located adjacent to the Green Line Light Rail, near Los Angeles International Airport, the Aviation Station will provide much-needed workforce and market rate housing for the area. As part of the City of Ontario‘s central redevelopment area, City Center Seniors provides modern well-appointed and well-located accommodations for low-income seniors

Finally, on June 30, Withee Malcolm‘s TLofts were recognized by the Los Angeles Business Council Architectural Awards in the multifamily, market rate category. The prestigious competition honors the contributions of teams of the architects, contractors and developers in creating and implementing outstanding building projects in Los Angeles.  A contemporary live/work condominium project on the city’s Westside, TLofts is a prime example of smart, sustainable, infill design that has been lauded as “a laboratory for innovation in housing.”
