House in Horinouchi, Japan by Mizuishi Architect Atelier (designed using Vectorworks)

Saturday, October 29th, 2011

Article source: Mizuishi Architect Atelier

This is a very small house built on the triangle site where the river and the road were crossed and made to the acute angle. For the dead-end road, it became a plan in various regulations for obtaining special permission. Residents are husband and wife and a little girl. Although it was a novel site of a limited area, since a river was faced through a bank and a promenade, I would like to design various relations with the river. The building is the form that cut an acute angle part on a triangle plan derived from the site.Furthermore,it got the maximum volume of hip roof of three planes in regulation of setback-line.

Naust Paa Aure in More og Romsdal, Norway by TYIN tegnestue Architects

Friday, October 28th, 2011

Article source: TYIN tegnestue Architects

The boathouse is a cultural and historical hallmark of Norways coastal regions, where fishing used to be the primary profession. They have traditionally been used for storing boats and fishing gear, but today many of them are being converted for recreational summer use. This particular boathouse is located on the outermost reaches of the Moere-coast, and it hails from the middle of the eighteenth century. It was in such a bad state that the owner decided to tear it down and build it anew. The simplicity of the old building, its good placement and honest use of materials would become key sources of inspiration for the design of the new building. Great emphasis was placed on the main construction, the gates of the gable wall and the adaptable long facade.

Connecticut Pool House in Sharon, Connecticut by Resolution: 4 Architecture (designed with FormZ and Vectorworks)

Friday, October 28th, 2011

Article source: 4 Architecture

Located in a natural clearing within a wooded hillside of northwestern CT, this watering hole serves as a sustainable entertainment and relaxation center from the hectic urban existence, a place to go from always being “on”, to actually shutting “off” for a bit – a place to simply chill out.  The 16 x 52 module contains a sleeping zone at one end of the module, and a food prep  consumption digestion zone at the other.  In between sits a recycled black-steel core, a volume containing the bathroom, steam shower, laundry, storage, and a heat-generating fireplace.  Although ‘floating’ in the middle of the space and not connected to a perimeter wall, the core is filled with natural light from a skylight above and frosted glass pocket doors; an outdoor shower brought indoors.

Municipal Theater of Zafra in Spain by Enrique Krahe Arquitectos

Friday, October 28th, 2011

Article source: Enrique Krahe Arquitectos

Public space needs to be continuously reinvented: design premises that prioritize patrimonial or landscape values are compatible with others where recreational or environmental aspects prevail. Located in a small town in the south west of Spain, the Theater of Zafra aims to reconcile the different events that are everyday staged, solving the transition between the monumental city and a ‘periphery’ under construction, through a smooth connection with the pedestrian center.
