Article source: Barker Freeman Design Office With these two proposals for a bar in the East Village in Manhattan, we employed a striking silhouette on the façade to bring presence to the space on the street. With House Bar, we used painted, perforated MDF panels to continue the house profile on the interior, which terminates in a DJ booth at the end of the room. Lighting filters through the perforations to provide ambient illumination.
With Cave Bar, we employed a pattern of aggregated plywood panels to shape the interior of the space. This panel system extends out and wraps over the façade. Uplighting along the top edge of the banquette seating and linear fixtures behind the panels provide indirect lighting for the interior. A joint venture with Cooper Hanlin.
