The aim of the project was to revitalize a dismissed industrial area with a residential building. The challenge was to work within the parameters of good design and a low budget to provide the city with quality architecture while respecting the commercial space requirements of the client.
The resulting project provides a substantial architectural impact with respect to the smaller buildings of the area that are characterized by a broad range of building styles.
Our proposal for the New Church of Våler is placed in the southern part of the project area in continuity with the ancient church, attempting to recover not only the orientation of it, but also the memory. The proposed design refers at the boat: the boat as a symbol of Christianity that welcomes and protects within it the faithful; the Drakkar as tribute at the exploratory tradition of the Norwegian people.

At the extension of the axis of the fifth avenue, pier museum becomes the ending of the urban space above the sea. The typology of building expresses the conversion and interaction of spatial energy. Simulating the natural growth, along the view toward the seascape in distance, the structure stretch from the beach end to the sea, converts the city space formed by street to a floating seascape terrace, planar pier evolutes to an organic structure, and provides the free path of promenade above the sea level.

Its function has not changed a bit in the last 40 years, it is surrounded by and isolated through highways, it is used as a parking lot and also as a meeting point for dubious people. The people have almost forgotten about it somehow after being in a bad state for years. Lot 108 has a prominent location in the Tetherow golf development featuring spectacular views of and from the golf course as well as desirable views of the distant landscape. These features combined with our client’s demands for a variety of living spaces with varied degrees of privacy, formal and informal concerns and clear distinctions between workplace and play space armed the project with a long list of things the building needs to achieve. Through in-depth site and program analysis, we were able to manage and prioritize these factors and create a building design that is intensely specific to its site and its occupants as well as sensitive to the environment.
