The urban railway system between Vienna´s centre and the airport got redesigned. Several stations got new configurations and cladding designs. Because Vienna´s International Airport in Schwechat gets converted and expanded at the moment, the underground station of the local train line S7, which connects Vienna´s centre with the airport had to be modified in various terms.

The underground station at Vienna´s airport got expanded to twice its platform length and was fitted with new exits. These changes provide improved access to and from the airport’s new terminal building. There are 2 platforms. One is an island platform, one is a “border”-platform. The central one handles all passengers to the local line, the other one is for intercity rail traffic.

The new underground station is accessed by three entrances, two of them with escalators and lifts, one of them only with stairs. The configuration allows very quick exits from the station to the airport.

The platforms are equipped with a tactile guidance system to enable full disabled access to the station and the airport. The interior design was in keeping with the scheme currently used by the Vienna S-Bahn, which are enameled metal claddings, suspended ceilings in Alucobond and natural stone floors and stairs. The blue colour used by S7-line shows up in several details to provide a good orientation for all passengers.
