The dormitories are applying a minimalist architecture based on the essential forms of rationalism and functionalism. Also, the module is inspired by Le Corbusier.

The reason why focusing on these styles is that to achieve the optimal performance of the student so by removing all the ornaments and unnecessary and dysfunctional loads (Adolph Loos, Ornament and Crime).
So the aforementioned building is not the Palace of Versailles or flashy baroque and rococo salon that will confuse students and at the same time will also rise the costs of construction and maintenance, but a functional object where conformism reaches the highest standards of living and welfare of the student in XXI century.

So the whole concept of the ground floors is shaped following the functionalism and rationalism. Each element is designed taking into account that communication distances to be as shorter and spaces to be as essential and as optimal concerning dimensions as well as by the volume (because of the cost of construction and maintenance, heating, etc.).

The basic concept for the facade where parts of the facade are open but also closed, is derived from the human eye. Eye also represents and symbolizes the human mind Illuminism where in this case, students should be enlighted. So my concept for the façade is not naive imitation of the shape of the human eye which in this case F.L.Wright says: \”You can not pour concrete in steel and roses\”. But the conceptual mechanism of the eye “open / closed” the philosophical concept has derived from it to the facade of the dormitory. Where the individual user opens or closes the window, same as the human eye when is eager for light, literally or figuratively when he is thirsty for knowledge. Also the brise-soleil follows the same principle of retina of the eye as well is used as a filter which directs its own amount of light that has to enter into the student’s room.

Introduction

The chosen subject is Student’s Dormitories. Seeing the expansive tendency of the university education in the Republic of Kosovo, and also seeing the lack of current minimal life conditions of the existing student’s houses I was forced to choose the subject Student’s Dormitory. I wanted to concentrate on the solution to produce to the students as many as optimal and essential conditions for student’s life (sleep, food) education and free time (sport and recreation).

Plan

Location

The choosen location for the campus is city of Gjakova .
Gjakova is a city and municipality in western Kosovo. It is also the administrative centre of the homonymous district. The municipality’s population is estimated at 94,158(2011).

The city of Gjakova lays in the left coast of the river Erenik, while spreads on the both sides of the stream of Krena. It is also on the side of the Çabrati Hill. The average elevation is 365 meters above see level. The city is located at 42.39°N 20.43°E.

The recent verdict of Municipality of Gjakova to allow the site of the campus be built on the ex-Yugoslavian Army barracks, on the west of the city with an estimated area of 13 hectare and 21 Are.

Plan

The Site

The terrain configuration is relatively flat with some parts slightly sloppy that follows the valley where the rivers Krena and Erenik.
The campus is divided into five areas:
1. Academic Area which includes, Library, Faculties with accompanying spaces (for reading rooms, lecture halls, laboratories, auditoriums, special areas, spaces for drawing, areas for language)
2. Residential areas consisting of the dormitories and a medical checkpoint.
3. Recreation area which includes the areas of sports, research center, cultural center, mini mall, Student Canteen.
4. Administrative Zone (Rector)
5. Parking area

Theory of Communications
E is derived from \”lines\” connecting one element to another
Includes lines that are formed by roads,
pedestrians, linear open spaces, or other elements that physically connect the parts of campus
The goal is to organize the network systems, connection, setting up the structure for ordering functional spaces that emphasize flow diagram and spatial diagram …
Movement systems, infrastructure efficiency, functional relationships take precedence over patterns defined outdoor space.

Diagrma

The dormitories are positioned on the north side of the Campus and have an orientation from northeast to southwest and southeast to northwest. So this kind of orientation gives students a good way of having enough natural light and visual communication with almost all the campus.
The campus has 3 apartments, 60 double-bed rooms and 20 single bed rooms, with a capacity of 140 students.
