Article source: Studio Arcadia Ego The design solution for the apartment started from the need to modify the original project that included the execution of a partition wall in front of the entrance; this wall delimited the area deputed to food preparation closed by sliding glass doors and furniture provided with angular. This solution, however, prevented a rational distribution of the residence, having an area of 30 square meters, could contain only a small table and a sofa. The project, planned to greatly reduce the wall of the kitchen until it becomes a shoulder retaining wall system of open living space which becomes a distinctive design element.  View of the storage unit Thus, we have obtained, in a relatively small area, a living area hosting two sofas (close to the mobile TV located under the staircase leading to the roof terrace), a dining area with glass table and storage unit and the ‘wall-equipped kitchenette with white lacquered wood, top and bottom steel. This piece of furniture, together with the one you put on the opposite wall that forms a natural continuation, has been designed “taylor made”. The kitchen – living room is characterized by predominantly white tones complemented by furniture elements (blue carpet and sofas) and red (seats) that combine with the warmth of the oak flooring. Through small changes to the internal layout, the furnishings, the project has changed the use of space and improved the functionality and comfort of the mansard.  View of the storage unit and the glass table of the dining room In the original project, in the bathroom was inserted a bath; by incorporating client’s requirements, it was decided to remove the bath and to design a small storage accessible from the hallway creating a utility room in the house was lacking. The bathroom has therefore taken on a more regular configuration allowing to introduce a shower covered in mosaic glass. In order to make the most of the light coming from two tall, narrow windows, it was decided to coat the walls of the bathroom with a white rectangular tiles (up to a height of 150 cm for the entire area except for the shower where the cover comes to 220 cm) closed by a rectangular element of frosted glass blue inserted around the entire perimeter of the room.  Particular image of the wall system of the kitchen Since the entire apartment is paved with the flat strips of parquet in oak, the choice was adopted to extend also to the bathroom this type of flooring in order to obtain a single surface and a single material capable of giving uniformity and unity to all the house. The shower is bounded by two simple glass sheets supported by structural elements perimeter light metal which give an effect of maximum transparency and lightness also given the small size of the environment. By making this small changes, approved by the client, the design has transformed the bathroom space and improving it in terms of distribution of materials that also achieving a continuity with the other rooms of the house.
