The institute wished to distinguish itself from its large neighbor, but also to create a building that is centered around the needs and experiences of its patients. Within the Institute, this patient-oriented and open approach is reflected in the interior, logistics and design. Transparency, natural light, color and space are crucial to the design.

The openness of the Institution is reflected in the open waiting areas, which seem to interconnect with each other. With their appearance, location and varying ceiling heights, each waiting area has its own character. The undulating roof links the waiting areas, offers intimacy and opens the interior to the outdoors.

This creates an inviting and accessible building that takes full advantage of the “healing environment” in its direct vicinity. The radiation bunkers form the heart of the building. These are not hidden, but clearly visible as a monolithic monumental block. They constitute part of the treatment that offers the chance of a cure.
