Article source: Studio Elmo Vermijs On second of June, in the outskirts of Rhoon, the Netherlands, the Buijtenkeuken was launched, five projects (Buijtenpaths, Buijtenbrewery, Buijtenbed, Buijtennursery and Buijtenkitchen) which investigate the coming years the relationship between landscape and recreation.
For more info: Other Projects Workshop Buijtenland Buijtenpaths: www.estervandewiel.nl /www.marnixtavenier.nl Studio Elmo Vermijs was asked by Ester van de Wiel (initiator & curator) to develop the Buijtenkitchen. The former bake/cook house was taken as starting point and inspiration for the Buijtenkitchen. A small house which was used in the yard of a farm, there was a wood oven for baking breads, cakes, pies, etc. for the surrounding community or residents of the farm. The Buijtenkitchen is a mobile kitchen (to be transported on a trailor wagon) in which a wood-burning oven has the central place. The kitchen will be used for dinners and workshops on location. In addition, it will act as a kitchen where experiments can be done with cooking on wood. Cooks (local, regional and national) are challenged and can use the Buijtenkitchen to gain knowledge and other ways of preparing and preserving. The ingredients in the immediate area can be processed in the kitchen. Pepijn Schmeink of restaurant Eendracht (in R’dam) is the first cook involved in the project. The oven is in agreement with him and stove builder Gerbrand Dros developed. Studio Elmo Vermijs Elmo Vermijs works on the intersection of visual art, architecture and design. In 2006, he graduated with honours/cum-laude at the department Architectural Design of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. After his graduation Studio Elmo Vermijs was set up, the studio initiates, designs and realizes autonomous architectonical objects in public space. These arise from a social context in and the fascination for locations, spaces, (waste)materials, craftsmanship and constructions. The objects bring people together by asking them to act, participate or organize an activity. The projects are developed and built from the potential thatis present in an area. Recent completed projects:Harvest-and knowledgemap &The Pavilion (Pavilion developed from local waste materials, skills and expertise for Festival Oerol, Terschelling), Folding Sauna (mobile sauna special feeling of freedom and relaxation), Rolling Stock (proposal stage, bar and toilet in Spoorzone, Tilburg). Projects in development and implementation:Tower Room (interior tower room for primary school in Zoetermeer), Meetingpoint station (banking & roof for stationsquare Zaandam), Hotel Buiten (Unique temporary hotel on the Sloterplas islands A’dam in collaboration with Overtreders W&Tijdelijk gebruik).
